Default Another tyres thread :)

Ok thought I would post up on here before I bite the bulliet and buy new, I was looking at toyo t1R but I belive a lot of companies don't stock this range however they seem to stock the toyo c1s or the t1 sport :/

I want a decent set of tyres but not looking to £500 ideally £400 or below max budget.

Need inspiration

Cheers, Csf

I have the nankang ns-2r's 180 compound on mine csf and they have no issue coping with 450bhp at the wheels, great traction while cornering and not too much road nosie either. Mine are 215/45/17 and I paid £340ish from mags @ ruislip tyres

Yep the ns-2r's are the latest model and the one to go for, the ns2 are old now and dont think many people have used them on subarus. Yep the 120 compound is more suited to the track as its a little softer so will wear quicker too

There are a couple of threads recently. One of my favourites was called something like tyres for 400bhp +

The poll rated the NS2R's as the favourite by the majority but also mentioned the Goodyear Eagle F1's Asy2, Michelin Pilot Sports XL etc

The problem i had and many others did were actually getting hold of the NS2R's and finding someone who would fit them at a decent price.

My local tyre place wanted £125 per corner, knowing that they can be delivered to your door for about £80, i smiled and walked away.

While visiting the folks in Bristol i decided i best get it sorted as my old tyres were very low and it had to be sorted then and there otherwise id have gone straight to Maggs at Ruislip Tyres.

I had pretty much decided on the Goodyears ASY2 until the bloke in there tried to convince me to spend a little more and go for the efficient grip. I started another thread and it was clearly pointed out that the efficient grip are a good tyre and will last longer however they're not as good as the ASY 2 for our type of vehicle and driving.

ALI-B (Mod) pipped up and recommended the Michelin Pilot Sports XL. I called the office back for another quote and this time spoke to someone who knew what he was on about. Told me about the cars (Focus RS, EVO etc) he had and the tyres he put on. He rated the Sports over all the others mentioned but did admit to not trying the NS2R's

Fully fitted came in roughly at £90 a corner.

I can't rate the tyres enough. I've yet to find there limit in the dry and they are superb in wet and greasy situations. There's no sign of uneven wear and currently can't rate them enough.

All explained here mate,

http://www.blackcircles.com/general/speedrating

91= Index of maximum load carrying capacity per tyre, in this case equates to 615kg.
92= Index of maximum load carrying capacity per tyre, in this case equates to 630kg.

Y is basically rated for up to 186mph

NS2R's in 180 are the best road tyre I have used tbh.

Cheers again, all understood so would be better to look for 92y will see if I can see them on demond tweeks now
I currently have 92y fitted to another set of wheels I have so guessing this is the norm ?

Try Tyreleader for Nankangs if you have a local fitter.

Don't confuse NS-2 (budget road tyre, not worth considering) with NS-2R (semi slick track tyre, a totally different proposition).

OP you do not mention what type of usage your car receives. If you are looking for max dry grip and are prepared to sacrifice some wet grip, ride comfort and are happy with extra road noise then something like an NS-2R would suit very well.

Bear in mind that an NS-2R has a much stiffer sidewall than something like a Toyo T1-R which makes for a very different kind of drive, depending on what you are looking for.

If you are considering the NS-2R then also have a look at the Federal 595 RS-R (not to be confused with the 595 Evo) which like the NS-2R is a track-biased performance-orientated tyre that offer limpet-like dry grip at the expense of some wet grip and NVH.

If you want a more road-biased and comfortable tyre, I'd suggest the Vredestein Sessanta (currently very well priced at Camskill and Tyreleader). The T1-R and T1-S are fairly old designs now and have been surpassed.

Be careful to be precise when picking tyre variants...for example another poster above has recommended Michelin Pilot Sports without clarifying whether this refers to PS3 (mediocre), PS2 (old but still decent) or PSS (excellent but pricey).

No worries,

If not try their eBay store as the discount might not show on the main website.

I have 92Y on both my Leon FR and The Scooby, don't really see there being much of a difference and always seem to come up with 92Y when looking.

The sub won't be getting hammered left right and center I think I would like more grip than the nankang are likly to give in the wet although I hear there class B wet tyre so still pretty good

I'm very tempted by the vredesteins at the price there at its a bargin I had them a few years back but never got a chance to use them.
