This has probably been asked before, but as search isn't working on the forum, could someone clarify this for me...

It struck me the other when looking at the STi "S202" on a certain UK importers website, that they mention the car produces 320bhp & 283lbft.

Would I be right in thinking these figures can only be produced using 100RON fuel? (which we obviously can't get over here)

Would this same reasoning account for the normal Japanese Sti being quoted at 280bhp and the UK eqivalent at 261bhp ?

...Or is there more to it ?

Thanks in advance,
-Daz

no thats down to exhaust mods to get it through the emissions.

and fueling 100ron should always be run on 100ron running on lower octane fuel is bad if the ECU has been mapped for a specific fuel. Lower octane fuels with cause det (pinking or whatever you want to call it) which is VERY bad. However saying that MY01 -> cars run with a more addaptive ecu which retard the ignition when it detects det.

This is probably a question you should ask in drivetrain. Shame the search is down

Thanks Dizzy - so if someone was to buy a Japaese type Sti with 280bhp and mapped for 100RON, if they brought it over here and got it mapped for 98RON, what depreciation in power output could you expect ?

Well, its less 4bhp for a start as its 280PS = 276 bhp on 100RON fuel

How much this reduces going down to 98.?RON for Optimax or 97 for SUL is a good question, about 2-3% at a guess, which is around 5-8 bhp.

Just run optimax and a good octane booster and it should advance even more and be more than 100RON so even more than 276 bhp . Dont forget I doubt the ECU will start at 100RON and work up it can retard a little . Its when you run 95 RON its grenade time .

The minimum spec for Jap 100RON petrol is 98.5RON I believe, I suspect you'll find optimax gives about 276bhp just like jap petrol
