Default Forging a version 2

I'm looking in forging a version 2 closed deck engine out of a jdm gc8 4door with a 5speed short ratio box?

What do I need to do to get it reliable and running 400-450bhp reliably?

I will be doing it over a year and il probably be asking my local tuning shop indigo gt to build the engine.

I'm a newbie to all of this

Why not save yourself a large wedge of cash and aim for about 350bhp, it's about perfect in a Classic and plenty fast enough AND usable, once you start heading for 400+ it gets very expensive and they start to become un-usable on the road.

See Law of diminishing returns.

Unless your planing on tracking it and properly caning the **** out of it you're better off either not starting it or buying one that someone else has done.

To give you a straight forward answer to the question-
steel rods and forged pistons, you will need V3/4 sti heads to get enough flow. ARP headstuds and decent gaskets Cosworth/RCM. That will give you an engine capable, the cost starts to shoot up with turbo, injectors etc.
Give me a shout if you need a quote for an engine.

I would like to do some track days in it yes,

I was thinking:

Forged pistons
Conrods
New crank
New pulleys
Hybrid intercooler
New inlet mani
Scooby clinic turbo
Full exhaust headers, etc
Big injectors
Fuel pump
Standalone ecu

What power should I be looking at getting and have I missed anything out for the engine?

Obviously I'd have to have a look at the drive train to because I've heard the gearbox' sand diffs are made of cheese

Yes you missed 6 speed box setup, clutch, decent brakes and some decent suspension too but Paulo P's estimate is in the right ball park

The brief for my build was 400 capable but I wont be asking more than 350 from it. Once you get above the 300bhp mark you're in gearbox wrecking territory. I stopped counting what I've spent on the car long ago.

Engine:
Long engine built by finch motorsport.
Rebuild based on inspected EJ20 open deck block with report.

All bearing surfaces tolerances measured/checked (recorded in report)
Replacement center thrust crank (measured and inspected)
ACL Race main and big end bearings.
"new age" STI con rods.
Mahle 4032 Forged pistons 92.5 O/S
ARP 11mm head studs.
Gen Subaru MLS head gaskets.
Finch Motorsport modified oil pump.
OE water pump.
AS performance clubman baffled sump.
OBP baffled catch tank.

Cylinder Heads and valve train:
22b cylinder heads, valves reseated refaced to finch motorsport spec.
Valve guides and seals replaced.
Valve clearances set.
OE Subaru timing belt tensioner & Idlers.
Gates "Racing" kevlar timing belt.
RCM timing belt guide.

Management & Electrical:
ESL Daughter board.
Mapped by Race dynamix.
97 STI MAP sensor.
MAF Delete.
"New age" coil pack conversion.

Induction, fueling & Cooling:
TDO5 16G top entry turbo charger.
440cc Yellow injectors
Sard fuel pressure regulator & Gauge.
Walbro 255 lph fuel pump.
RCM K&N Air filter.
HDI Hybrid front mount intercooler.
Upgraded Viper performance Intercooler hoses, clamps and vacuum pipes.
Forge Header tank.
Forge VTA BOV
Samco coolant hose set.
Motul inugel expert coolant.

Transmission:
6 speed DCCD TY856WN4KA
gear ratios 3.636:1, 2.375:1, 1.761:1, 1.346:1, 0.971:1, 0.756:1
Final drive 3.90:1 Sure track LSD 180 drive shafts and hubs.
Excedy pink box clutch.
"DCCD Pro" diff control with auto option
