P1 versus STI 7 Type UK
New model?
Slight facelift, maybe. But new engine, new exhaust, new turbo, new mapping????
We're not talking stickers or spoilers here.
We're talking engine tweaks and mapping.

Errrmmmmm.....
P1: 300 bhp
STi7 Type UK: 260bhp
Who sold you on that plan?
There used to be loads of tecchy stuff on the SIDC webpage - loads of details of the various models of Impreza but it doesn't seem to be there any more, maybe it's in the members area?

If it's still new <4K miles then it will be noticeably slower. Make sure you run it in properly though.
Through the gear times look very similar to the P1, but you do need to be in right gear to make the most of the engine.

Its the same for me- expected reduction in performance but have to learn to drive in slightly different way have to be much more precise with the gear you are in
roll on PPP- the STI is 9 times out of 10 the better car but just lacks that excitement for the sunday balst when you want to let your hair down!!

Interested in comments about importance of gears. P1 would pull from 30 to 90 ( where allowed ) in third - no way with STI.
Does the turbo spin later in STI hence lag if you are in the higher gears and will PPP address this ?

David,
with some 20 - 30 bhp less, and weighing 200Kg more, the STi Type UK (in standard trim) will never have the straight line speed of the P1.
The turbo does kick in later, and doesn't produce useful boost until about 4,000rpm, but once going, it accelerates quite well through to the red line.
Mine has done over 4,000 miles now, and loosened up nicely after a long weekend spririted drive across Scotland last month.
To keep the acceleration going, you do need to keep the engine revs above 4 - 5k, and so need to use the gears a lot more.
One thing to note, is that the STi is a lot quieter and more refined than the P1 inside, and the speeds can be deceptive.
I've driven one of the cars fitted with the PPP, and it does pull a lot more strongly through the gears to the red line (and also sounds a lot nicer as well!). With a rumoured 300bhp, then the power to weight ratio is a step closer to that of the P1.
Where the STi scores highly though, is on twisty roads where the car seems to hold the roads better, and has less understeer, so you get a higher A to B speed.

Dear all
I was fortunate enough to be ferried around in a PPP'd STI 7 at Prodrive recently driven by Mike Wood and i can tell you it aint 'alf fast mate.
I reckon it felt about as quick to 60 as my 450 odd BHP Skyline. I wouldn't worry too much if your STI is less than 4000 miles old as my plain old WRX seemed to gain quite a few ponies once up to around the 5k mark.
Hang in there and revel in the better more adjustable handling untill you get to add warp drive later in the year.
BTW I believe the new PPP will consist of very similar components to the WRX PPP (ie. chip, zorst section etc.) so I would expect it cost the same and it will still have cost less than the old P1 and be more refined and generally a nicer place to be into the bargain.
Cheers
