Why are you doing it?
Better MPG, BHP or just for bling?
Never really understood why you need to earth an engine when the car is sat on rubber compound and is the safest place to be in a thunder storm.

 

Why do you want one? What are you trying to fix?

Been investigatig my cold starting issues and found some issues with the earth resistance, cleaned the originals and still foud some high resistance which will only cause issues for the electrical system to work correctly, which at first crank when there is high current draw; the earth current is more, this could cause problems on other parts of the system.
with the use of jump leads as temp earth leads the resistance was very close to equal
As the car was warm and starting fine will re check when cold again and see if the earthing is possibly an issue.

 

Had a grounding kit on mine, took it off then I swapped engine, can't say I've noticed a difference with it not being there

 

A lot of the classic imports came with them on like mine did.

I asked why they were there and was told in Japan many suffer with earthing problems. Left them on as i didn't want to bring in an issue that i've never suffered. However, having a new fitted engine at the moment so if the car comes back without them attached you can have mine.

 

They are worth the time and expense on a classic, not so much on the later cars. The older the car, the more likely an earthing kit will be useful.

I made mine myself. It uses heavy duty extra flexible cable from an ICE store, plus solder ring connectors...no point in trying to improve an earth if the crimp connection is poor

To solder the rings, I stripped back the cable, entered it into the ring connector, squeezed with pliers to hold in place, then heated with a small blowlamp, feeding solder wire into it until it took. Allow to cool naturally.

Earth points were: Engine block, gearbox, bodywork front struts, bodywork front slam panel, ecu mounting bolt.

All six run back to a proper earthing block with ONE connection to battery.

Does it work? Who knows, but my car at 16 doesn't suffer from any earth issues.

 

Not that kind of earthing.

 

Might put mine back on then seeing as it's a classic and of the Japanese variety
