Can anyone recommend a good sturdy tablet that you can go on the internet, YouTube etc. that's not much bigger than a phone (7" screen?). It's for my son and he's just turned 3. He's always wanting my phone to play stuff on or search Google etc. As he's bright and his world revolves around numbers, letters and patterns the V-tech stuff is too simple. Budget upto £150?

He will be supervised regardless

Agreed Hudl meant to be very good for price, or maybe a galaxy tab

 

My 2 girls both have a Nabi2, they are 6 and 4 but the youngest was using it from the age of 3. No supirvision required as when locked in "nabi mode" they cant access internet. Also it now supports Google play and amazon. Still the most powerful kids tablet on the market. £150.

 

Entry level Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (7 inch) is good value at around the £100 mark.

 

Not strange at all - my goddaughter starting hi-jacking their parent's iPad before her first birthday

So a second hand/recon iPad mini would be what I'd look for - plenty of kids apps on iTunes.

Just lockdown iTunes or remove the credit card account from it so you don't get a shock when teh credit card bill comes Once they have your account passwords they'll download EVERYTHING! 3yr olds appear to make very good password hackers

I had a good look locally as preferred to buy today so I can set it up later when he's in bed

Went for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 for £99 from Asda of all places! Nat has the Mini 3 phone and it's brilliant. Will save my iPhone getting abused now too.

If anyone is interested you can get the proper Samsung covers for the Tab 3 7.0 off Amazon for £5 instead of £35 from Toys'r'us etc! Bargain!

I expect you'll say it teaches them stuff but sad to see a kid's childhood lost in an array of technology.

I was one of first to really grow up with computers around; I was eight when the Spectrum came out, and it was far from being the first computer I'd ever used. (That honour, IIRC, belongs to the Commodore model 4032... google it!)

My folks had no idea what to make of it really. Nowadays I'd simply have been called a nerd, and there are far worse groups to belong to. I went on to do a degree in electronics, and I've made a pretty good career out of it, so it's not all bad by any means.

Tablet computer at three, though? Dunno. I remember taking a screwdriver to my Fisher-Price toys around that age, to find out how they worked.

Make of that what you will...!

 

I'm not going into any details (as it's not for a Subaru based car forum), but my son isn't your average 3 year old. It was recommended by professionals, that's all I'm saying.
