and mine has been removed for many years with no mention on a MOT test, I only use a Independent MOT tester so no fudging.

Not an issue as it doesn't fit either due to having a fmic.
Never bothered with undertray anyway.
Makes changing the oil a doddle

I reused a couple of holes to fix some little pads of checker plate as jacking points.

But we aren't taking them off for the sake of it ? Most take them off as they rust badly and fail MOT for it. So if its not there to be seen as rusty , it passes MOT.

Ok peeps, my last post on this subject
This video ( clearly) shows the cradle is indeed designed for engine to chassis vibration
If you can't watch through it start at 5 mins ..

5 minutes is a guy juggling, unless something's gone wrong.

Edit.

Something went wrong...

See your point, it does pretty much spell
It out.

this makes no sense, are you suggesting Subaru makes kamikaze models for the JDM market but safe sensible ones for the UK

So I just imported an S202 into the UK, how did it pass the MOT if it's so important ? If you've ever held the frame in your hands you will know it weighs a tonne but is weak as ****. Quite an engineering achievement !

isn't that a different design cradle to the one the op is on about? that one looks like the engine crossmember is part of it where as the the version the bugeye had was a bolted on affair which was used to add crash protection. i'll look through my training books and see if i can find it where it says this.

Well I'm well pleased that Fudgey spent the time and the late hours sorting the car because I'm the guy that bought it.

Cracking car, beautifully looked after inside and out, a stackful of invoices, all the right paperwork and a honest seller.

I wish you well in your search Dan for a new car but as you said it's gonna to be hard to replace this one - massive amount of car for the money. I've had a few high performance cars, some faster and more sophisticated than this one, but I have to say at the moment, it does make me grin every time I take it out.

I've not been let out of as many junctions as usual and a few vans, Audis and Astras have been tailgating me but I guess I have to get used to that.

Good luck and your efforts were worth it. I've never made a penny on any car I've ever sold in 30 years - I don't think enthusiasts do - it's just the car dealers.

Mot next month and mine has a hole, gonna take it off
and chance it. Maybe save up and get one of those shiny
h-braces.

Surely it can't be a safety device if one model was produced
without it.

Beware as the cheaper h-braces need the u-frame in place to fit unless you can get someone to machine you some spacers. There are others that will replace the u-frame but they are pricey - looks the dogs danglies though

Looks like a a cheap golf diesel is on the cards and free some cash up for the house unfortunately.

Going to have to sort the bicycle out at this rate tho!

True words there, I'm a Subaru specialist and an MOT tester. If it isn't there it doesn't fail !!! End of !!

If it is there, it has to be corrosion free and function as intended.

I have seen many of these bars which have taken an impact, they just tear and don't really offer much more protection than without it !

How can you can you say i never looked after it? i bought it with a gearbox issue, it failed, i fixed it.
you dont spend 14 hours detailing a car you dont 'look after'

what ever it needed it got. i could afford to run it and fix it so i did. only sold as i needed to free up some cash for the house so unfortunately the car went. if you must know i never had it for sale and didnt really need to sell it other than releasing some funds. i just mentioned on one of Kims posts that it may be for sale soon and he was interested.

unlike you i am pretty capable with a set of spanners so will not hesitate to replace/repair whatever needs doing on any vehicle i have owned so it isnt that much of an issue really!

Sounds like an unpleasant piece of sh+t-stirring to me.

TT, Let's have some evidence that the car I just bought had issues when it was sold to me last weekend

It's gone very quiet...

Thanks.

I've bought enough cars in my life to be able to recognise an honest owner and a genuine car.

Not sure what that video has to do with the bugeye part? As stated, that's an engine cradle too. Not saying the bugeye one is of any use, just makin the point that the video evidence there is not for the same part.
