Stay away from this car. FG06 AYJ
Interesting comments on here, many thinking a trader should know everything about every car, which clearly is not reasonable.
Also traders have a bad name, of course they are ALL ripping the poor old public off, again not true.
Now when a seller rips a trader off like this seller did with his Scooby that's alright?
As has been mentioned earlier, honesty works BOTH ways.

if the dealer doesnt know and the car fails in the warranty period, the warranty company will have to sort it anyway.
agreed though the seller who palmed it off onto the dealer is as much to blame if not more so, you never know someone may send the dealer a link to this thread and he may be able to get some comeback from the dodgy seller

Looks like a turd but I can see how this would seem like a nice first Subaru for someone, only to turn into a nightmare. Really feel for the trader imo as others have stated. It isn't a toy for him, he is doing this for a living which is tough at times as we all know. Met some shady dealers but the majority are decent guys only out there to put food on the table.
The issues the lad was having did not come apparent till after he had traded it. He was always going to trade in due to the running costs etc. So when issues started to appear that was when he did. (rightly or wrongly).
It was traded into a major Vauxhall dealer. It looks like it has then gone through the auctions and ended up with this dealer.
In-between this. It has then had stickers added. Steering wheel changed etc. This was done to make it to be something its not to gain more money on the sale. Again rightly or wrongly.
All i was doing (OP) was passing information on. So no one gets burnt buying it from the scoobynet community.
So please if there is negative comment etc don't aim them at me. As the old saying goes "don't shoot the messenger"

You said yourself that he had 'running issues' with it so traded it in. You then say that he knew nothing of those issues till after he part-ex'd it - but I thought that was the reason that he traded it in the first place?!
Yes a trader (which it appears seems to make it OK) bought the car but it just as easily could've been bought by me or anyone else on this forum.
You are the messenger granted and have done the right thing by warning people on this forum about this car, but whilst no-one this forum will buy it - someone who is not will.
I already feel sorry for them - and so should the lad that you 'know'

Well I contacted the dealer as I felt for him and didn't want him to sell it on knowing this info and this is his reply

Now this seems like a nice guy if it does turn out for a rebuild.
Seems to me he knows he's in the game of you win some, you lose some. But at least he will make a loss and rebuild it if nesseesary before he sells it.

unless he had a real good trade value when taking it in. As said you win some & you loose some.I'm in he same boat with my Audi it's not exactly behaving as it should be at this min in time but I'm not spending any more on the thing so I've given it to a trader at way under trade price so he can resolve the issues, but he does do me a lot of favours so can't complain

Manners and honesty are free. Well done you.
Still doesn't ring true that the "OP's friend" didn't know about these issues when it was traded in. Chances are he did and he's just a very dishonest person, if that's the case then you need new friends OP.
Possibly one of the decent ones then! Still going to be at a loss given it's a WRX to start with

From what I understand, The op's friend traded it in at vauxhall. So between then and now it's had the sti stickers and some other bits fitted, and ended up with a poor unsuspecting trader via auction. Surely vauxhall wouldn't have done that, so maybe there was another owner in between. If he buys many cars at auction, he will have learnt to take the bad ones on the chin I'm sure.
