And just because the things are thrown in the bin, the store manager does not want people rooting through it by people climbing into his yard - does he not have a right to have this pursued if he so wishes?
so why didnt they even bother to attend when my car was vandalised to check if there was cctv, forensics etc? I would consider that a tad mroeserious than taking something from a bin, I wanted them to pursue it, but they neve even showed up

So are you calling the store manager a liar, in writing, in a public forum, whilst you are a serving police officer?

29 January 2014 - Prosecution for waste food theft

The store in question is next door to a police station. Iceland staff did not call the police, who attended on their own initiative. Nor did we instigate the resulting prosecution, of which we had no knowledge until the media reports of it appeared yesterday evening.

Indeed, are you calling Malcolm Walker CBE a liar?

Strange....

Without looking at the case papers - and not calling anyone a liar (as i don't believe i have) and reserving my right to my own opinions on a public forum etc etc....

They may not have 'instigated the prosecution' (which will be down to CPS) and they may not have had a knowledge that the resulting prosecution was instigated.... but, i find it hard to believe that the store staff will not have been spoken with at all. You also need some sort of value and owner to prove any form of theft/found on enclosed premises.

Could the press release not just be Iceland trying to distance itself from the whole thing

We had a £1500 mountain/trials bike stolen from our garage.

All we got was a crime number, not even a visit.

And many many crimes ARE downgraded to non-crime...it was on TV this morning and the new crime figures' standing shows it.

There is a public feeling that the police as a whole pick and choose what they will and won't pursue and what constitutes a crime.

In this case, the CPS/Police OUGHT to have persuaded the store manager NOT to prosecute. And PLEASE don't tell us that's not their place..........
If they have not turned up and no investigation has taken place, then this is clearly wrong and you should have been updated as to the results. The same with the vandalised car. These are the cases that you should complain about.

Downgrading of crimes (as per tv) - If people phone in a suspected crime, and it transpires that no crime has occurred then the police can 'no crime' it from the start. Some people try to claim something has happened when it clearly hasn't (report of a stolen car, which transpires that the owner had crashed the night before whilst drunk) etc etc

I can't oversee every police call that comes in - all i can do is the best job i can, suffice to say if you feel you have not had a good service, then complain.

Been there, done that.

You know what? The police investigate themselves, so it's just NOT worth it.

Just my point. It's the cps who dictate what to charge with whereas it used to be down to the custody Sgt.

I assure you, yes the police investigate themselves to a certain degree and if you've done wrong you are well and truly in the poop! Complaints Depts offer no favours.
