I wonder how many hatch owners stuck to that?

Your average buyer won't have a clue about RONs.

In conversation sooooooo many people run their cars (not just Imprezas) on 95 RON and get quite aggressive when you suggest it's a bad idea to do so. I cannot understand the mentality of buying a high performance car and then saving about 50p each fill up running the car on something that will damage it.

Talking of 340r maps etc, my Cosworth has a sticker on the inside of the fuel latch stating 97 RON also. Have never run the car on anything other than 99 V-Power or Momentum.

Didn't the hawk or hatch have labels saying 98ron?

I dont think its anything to do with saving money, My dad has no money issues and seems to have a bit of cash stacked away, and owns a Impreza, and he always fills his car with 95ron unleaded, it doesnt matter how many times I tell him not to, and put 97-99ron unleaded in, he just dont listen, and try's to tell me that unleaded is unleaded!! and super unleaded is just a marketing ploy by petrol companys to get more money out of you!!

He has had his standard Impreza for 5 years now and always run it on 95ron unleaded with no issues, so I can even say that his engine will break blah blah, because of how long he has owned the car, i just let him crack on with it.

To be fair, most cars don't tend to suffer engine damage with 95RON, and the difference is not noticeable, so I can see why most owners don't feel their cars are as needy. When you tune other engines after learning on Subarus it is so easy! 2.5 Subaru engine is octane hungry despite the low compression ratio, big bores, port injection, it is an old engine design that is well past its use by date in combustion terms.

I thought that ONE of the reasons you can gain from a simply remap is because you can tune the car specifically to run on one type of fuel ie v-power. And that Subaru have to design the cars to be able to let say run on lesser fuel if you go on your hols to another country. But before you ask I would only run a car on good stuff but it seems by that logic that you could run on 95-ron.

^ not the case, 93 PON is more like 98 RON, but they also get E85 widely available which is brilliant.

A common error made by us Brits, the US use (R+M)/2

Anti-Knock Index (AKI)

In most countries, including Australia, New Zealand and all of those in Europe, the "headline" octane rating shown on the pump is the RON, but in Canada, the United States, Brazil, and some other countries, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI, and often written on pumps as (R+M)/2). It may also sometimes be called the Pump Octane Number (PON).
Difference between RON and AKI

Because of the 8 to 10 point difference noted above, the octane rating shown in Canada and the United States is 4 to 5 points lower than the rating shown elsewhere in the world for the same fuel. This difference is known as the fuel's sensitivity, and is not typically published for those countries that use the Anti-Knock Index labelling system.

Thanks for clearing that up, always thought they had crap petrol, was always surprised when they posted there dyno graphs and for example a GT30 had made 600bhp on 93ron

And that will be 600 at the wheels not flywheel (which we tend to use here in the UK)

Is there a way to convert wheel bhp to flywheel bhp or is it different on every car? For example if a car has 400whp can you calculate flywheel bhp with no other information?

Just an update on the previous conversation I was part of on this thread. Sorry I have been quiet the last week or so, but with the massive WRX STi launch I have coming up, and my "little project" I have been swamped.

The 5-Year warranty, 340/350 WRX STi has finally had the green light today. The last few details are been put together, and all will be announced properly in the next 48/72, it will be announced here first.

Just wanted to publically say a big thank you to the honest feedback you guys have given me in private and on the forum, without it, I would not have been able to get done what I have. Thank you.

Congrats mate I'm putting my order in for the new sti next week. 3 years warranty and service for first year included. I live in Qatar so a full tank is 4 quid and my insurance is 50 quid a year. Already drove a mates and my word is it so much better than any previous sti I've owned. Everything about it is better imo looks great exterior and interior and everything feels better quality and more substantial than previous models. Far better than my previous 2013. You're gonna love it!

As promised previously, I can now confirm that the WRX STi with 340/350bhp and a full 5-year warranty as per all other new UK Subaru's will be officially going on sale today at Mangoletsi Subaru in Knutsford, Cheshire.

It will be priced at £31,995 on the road (including road fund licence, delivery etc), deliveries of this car will start in July 2014. Our demo will be ready to view and drive next week.

What are you offering those who already have the car and for what price?

It would be the same cost, £3,000 for the power upgrade and the warranty.

Presumably it is remaining warranty plus two years for existing cars? Who will the warranty be with / through and what exact upgrades are down for the money ie are we getting a new exhaust?

Because it is non-Subaru UK approved modifications, then the warranty is taken over for the 3-years and we add years 4 & 5 to the car, to the exact same level as on all other UK Subaru's.

Sorry, but I am not disclosing the warranty company in a public forum, as I have worked far too hard to have someone come along and offer the same with no investment of their time and money, however, someone purchasing a vehicle or the package to their existing car, will get all the documented information so they are assured of total peace of mind.

The package will be a re-mapped ECU, sports exhaust, front lip spoiler and of course the warranty. There will also be other options available in the next few months, all that will retain the warranty.

A 340bhp STI impreza with a five year warranty for that price is an outstanding offer in my opinion. Great to see a dealer being so enthusiastic about listening to what people want and giving them it!

It's a very different car to the offerings from VW and Mercedes but anyone considering a four wheel drive 300+bhp car surely must consider one of these.

John at the same time will you be able to tell us the performance figures you hope to achieve ie 0-60 improvement times etc as I'm sure that will help you sell the package?
