Agreed but why? They can make it just as fast with a petrol motor so why all the batteries? Seems pointless to me,and did I hear it only has 6 miles on electric power? Awesome looking car and great technology but what is the gain?
Partly to push hybrid tech forwards and partly to show that you can use electric power to enhance the performance as well as look after the polar bears (as Clarkson said). Also the car is light (relatively) so the fuel efficiency for a supercar is way beyond what most can achieve! Don't forget the fuel efficiency recommendations for the future are getting tightened all the time by our 'friends' at the EU ahead of new regulations coming to a police state near you real soon!
With the engine and electric motors working together the car has the equivalent of 903bhp which as it weighs no more than a family hatchback makes for rather interesting performance
That Alfa is pretty IMO but some reviews suggest handling isn't what it should be. And £45k for a 1.7 litre four pot? Ouch!
It's great that Alfa has made a decent(ish) car again after decades of turds dressed up as sporty cars.
I'd still rather have our little hatch though. If I wanted a sports car, I'd go Boxster or Caterham.

If you had listened to the whole feature you would then have heard the motors are to fill in the gaps for turbo lag etc,
also the technology would have been useful practise for Mclaren for this years F1, getting your head around the technology in day to day use will have been useful to them.
Thats actually what it reminded of of when I looked at the shape of it, would rather have the Lotus any day of the week TBH though.
Maybe, I would think that the Alfa, being less hardcore than an Exige would be easier to live with everyday, for that reason I'd probably take the Alfa, plus it looks much sexier!
I've been offered the option of taking a 4C in August/September - I'd toyed with going back to an Exige a few months back, but as I'm not getting any younger and my back isn't so flexible now, an Exige is almost out the question.
The 4C might just do it for me, although I agree that £45k+ is too much.
I may end up regretting selling my Boxster for one.
