Well this is gonna drag on a while longer as there is a 4 week lead time on the Samco hose kit so I imagine it's gonna be end of April by the time I've taken delivery, fitted it, and had the car back up at Indigo for a map tweak. Oh well, you know what they say about those who wait?

Thankfully, it's not gonna be much longer, cos I fitted the new pipes this evening, and after a lot of swearing and cut up hands due to how much of a bitch the dump valve return hose was to remove, my car is sorted! It's smoother, more responsive, and noticeably more powerful and torquey. I'm also getting a much more pronounced pop when I change gear.
Next stop will be Indigo GT's dyno, where I am now sure that I'm gonna be mapped happy lol.
Going back to that dump valve return pipe, how frikkin ridiculous, it was held on by one of those spring clips, which would have been fine if the bits you have to grip and squeeze were at the top but they werent, they were underneath and inaccessable without removing the inlet manifold, which I certainly wasn't gonna do just to undo a clip. Anyway, I ended up having to butcher it off, which resulted in me butchering my hand at the same time, when I slipped, as you do! Well it's done now and I'm still grinning from my foot to the floor run down the A48 to Tescos.

All sounds good...those clips are a right bar steward for sure!

DMCL's graph is totally wrong but thats not related to the car in question, the power on 95 ron ought to be around 260/265, torque should be considerably higher there is no need at all to limit mid range boost for the fuel, boost makes torque and timing makes power ! But peaking at 4900 is a bit low, I would expect peak at 5300 for a WRX given the appropriate boost control pipework mods had been done which I suspect were not in this case. On V Power the car should be seeing 280 to 290 bhp and torque of high 300's so your torque is very low and very late.

Hi Bob, thanks for your reply.
You are correct mate, no boost control pipework mods have been carried out, as I wasn't aware that they were needed.
What is it that I need to do? If my car is capable of torque in the high 300's, then I want it lol!
Also, if I carry out these mods, will I get my extra power straight off the bat, or will it need mapping again?
Cheers
Chris

Well folks, after a short chat with Bob Rawle via PM, I decided that the best way to get my car properly sorted once and for all would be to just hand it over to him and let him do his stuff. So he's gonna be remapping it for me, early next month.

Yeah, I've heard nothing but great things about Bobs mapping skills. He recently did my hairdressers RB320 and that's now kicking out 400bhp and a monster 560 lb/ft!! She had actually recommended I take my car to him before I had my remap done, and I should have listened really but I was being impatient and wanted my cambelt service and remap all done at the same time. So if you are reading this, Karen, I will listen to you in future!

Hi BPR, I may have have mis-heard the torque figure cos that is a lot, but it's highly modified forged engine car. I don't really know more than that though cos it's not mine , unfortunately lol!

You won't go wrong with Bob pal, he really does know his stuff
Everything on Karens RB320 has been researched and what it needed it had! That car is like a child to her
Her RB is making just shy of 400hp with 463 torque on the standard VF43, it certainly moves, I'm the one who takes it for mapping etc for her, it's a lovely car that's for sure

Well folks, you weren't wrong when you said that I wouldn't be disappointed with Bob.....297bhp and 375 lb/ft is what I'm now getting! Just a bit of an improvement on the paltry 260/310 that my old remap gave me. I would totally recommend bob Rawle to anyone who wants to get the best out of their car.

I'm chuffed to bits mate. I've spent the last few months in limbo trying to work out what was wrong with my car, and all along nothing was, it just needed a couple of minor mods to boost control pipework and mapping properly.
Bobs gonna email me the graph later so I'll post it on here. It looks very different to the last one!
It does feel like a new car, goes like stink and is just a joy to drive. It's only after driving back from Swindon today that I realised just how poorly the car had driven and performed prior to today's rescue. I hoped bob would improve my car, but he's actually made it as good is it can possibly be with the mods I have. 297/375 on a TD04 is the very limit of what's possible isn't it?
