If the police have resonable intelligence to suggest some one is armed and dangerouse, they only have to issue a warning, "Police stop or i will fire" or words to that affect, if said person ignores that command, they then have intent to possibly use the suspected weapon and impose danger on the officers or public, that command being ingnored gives armed officers the right to open fire and remove that threat befoure it has the chance to take human life, the police have a inherit right to self deffence as we all do, also a duty to protect human life, if a officer is sure that the threat is there, he feels a threat to human life is imminent and he can 100% justify his action its legal to use lethal to protect him self and others, didnt even need to go to court and cost a fortune, ignoring police commands as a suspected armed criminal was enough to jusify the police actions before you factor in intelligence, patterns set / threat, etc, the likely hood of a officer being shot that day was high, based on patterns set from that type of person in that area on that day, they acted first to protect human life, would there be riots and protest in support of a shot dead police officer on duty that day? Seem those family's around there have no respect for british law, or the police who enforce them, and feel victimised that one of the comunity should be branded a armed ciminal and killed lawfully, as they do with stop and search, they seem to think crime is ok and who are the British law to challange it. They probably think its a racial based attack from police, victimising them, even tho thr police act on hard fact and inteligence.

It's difficult to have much sympathy for him or his parents.

He shouldn't of put himself in that position, and his parents should of brought him up better.

The Police always get grief in these situations, but they are remarkably restrained most of the time. This is such a rare case, it virtually never happens. Our police just don't shoot many people (thankfully)

I can see this costing the taxpayer a lot of money as usual. He got what he deserved in my opinion.

You can count the times UK police use lethal force on one hand. Quite literally!...

Out of 12,500 authorised armed responses last year, only 5 times were weapons discharged.

When you factor in the incredibly emotionally charged situations some of these officers must find themselves in - with nothing less than THEIR OWN life on the line! - then they obviously show remarkable restraint. And no small amount of skill in assessing the situations, all said and done.

(That said, the DeMenzies shooting sits uncomfortably with me.)

Having said that several people have died in police custody or otherwise died by result of police action but I can't remember an officer being prosecuted.

Yes, you're quite right.

That footage of that bloke who was left alone on the copshop floor - when the cops didn't attend to him - was awful.

It's worrying that that can happen in this country.

The Police are generally dealing with the dregs of society ......... you need a lot of patience and understanding to not want to kill them ........

The police are supposed to be subject to the law as everyone else.

There's no doubt in my mind though, that they get 'protected' by the establishment, when it comes to these extreme situations. Hillsborough, DeMenzies, that bloke who died in custody above, for starters.

at the end of the day if he is the type of person to have a hand gun he deserved to die anyway, some members of his family playing the race card but i dont give a crap if he was pink with spots on if he had a gun and didn't co-operate then he deserved to get shot.

Can't believe anyone gives two hoots about a crook with a gun.As someone said, black, white, yellow, pink, whatever.

No sympathy whatsoever. Can't even be bothered with the debate of who was doing what and when.

As above,live by the sword....

He was a crack dealer by all accounts and part of a pretty evil gang, him get shot is pretty low on my "give a **** o meter", his community will of course see it as victimization from the Police, then those with an anti establishment agenda will look for a way to turn it from one bloke being shot to evidence that we are living in a totalitarian Police state.

There wont be riots after this as so many ********* got done last time and are perhaps more wary and also, its cold and dark, so no new trainers based on a tenuous justification to riot based on some concept of solidarity with a bloke they didnt know or really give a **** about. They are all "**** Da Po-lice" until someone breaks into their house, cant have it both ways.

U no nuffin, even gangstas have rights innit bruv.

I'm still of opinion that hoodies and gangsters should be free to be hunted between 6PM on a Friday night and 6AM on a Monday morning TBH. The country would be a much better place for it.

Just what part of............'it is not a pre-requisite for Duggan to have been carrying a gun when he was shot, for the legitimate verdict of lawful killing to be reached'...............do his family and other apologists not understand?

This^^^^^^^

The family should be hiding their faces in shame that they had a gun carrying crack dealer as a relative. Instead they seem to think they are a spear head for some kind political movement tackling injustice against black people.

I switch over every time they appear on the news, I really couldn't give a toss about any of them
