That's a good shout, no chance this week though obviously. Will keep looking this week and arrange for an RAC inspection. About £150?

+1 on an AA/RAC inspection.
Yes, it is about £150 or so.
And as others have said don't be put off by the HG/piston ring failure of some 2.5 engines.
You don't hear many WRXs failing and if you keep it standard, service it and look after it you have not a lot to worry.

Personally I wouldn't get a RAC/AA inspection - they told a pal of mine that the Classic he bought was absolutely fine .... except they forgot to mention the extreme corrosion on the chassis and whole underneath of the car. Even with an independent inspection by an accredited garage the RAC refused to take any blame.
When I flew back to the UK from France to pick up my 2005 Hawkeye WRX I had it inspected prior by an independent Subaru specialist who listed all the defects etc. Cost was about £200 I think. Drove her home from London to the Loire Valley last winter and one year later and the car's just flown through a French Controle Technique (much stricter than the UK MOT) with no faults whatsoever. I'm very happy with the 2.5litre engine - suits my lazy style of driving and so far no probs to report (45k miles).
Bought the Hawkeye for its looks not its reputation, lol

Not a real STi such as the SG, more like "tuned by STi".
How much?
The ones for sale by traders are crazy expensive.
Indeed, the Forester has the same wheelbase as an Impreza, it may even have the same length!

£5600. It's about 70mm longer than the 2001-2005 Impreza shape IIRC (especially with that rear bumper)
