Should have design solutions this week - then prototypes.
Just to reiterate a few key points:
P1 springs were made to fit an, already available, inverted kyb damper - and were subsequently sold off with a Bilstein damper that was designed for a higher rate spring set 35N/mm front and rear. Not the 34N/mm and 27.5N/mm of P1 spring set.
P1 springs do not match kyb agx's/excel-g's or koni inserts, for length - loose fit at full droop.
P1 springs are too high a rate for excel-g's - low speed movements of the damper - OK. High speed movements of the front damper - No.

The Plan:
Version of WR Blue - for excel-g's/agx's/koni inserts/early Bilsteins - ROAD
Version of WR Grey - for agx's/koni inserts/late Bilsteins - ROAD/TRACK
Version of Gymkhana/Tarmac - for agx's/koni inserts/re-rated Bilsteins - TRACK/ROAD
All of the above to be lower than P1's - minus 10mm front/6mm rear
Ensure Bilstein have access to the spring designs/rates for tweaking, when re-building - have provided Bilstein with test struts.
A set of P1 equivalents

Designs being checked over in Germany, this week.
Found suitable front and rear bump stops for the twin-tube shocks. Somewhat stiffer rear bump stops, to neutralise the chassis, without resorting to large rear bars - which, in road use, reduce comfort and the independence of the rear suspension, effecting traction.

There's got to be a good option already for a decent suspension set-up for classic imprezas for UK roads, how about BC coilovers they're popular? This has taken way too long to sort out, it's been very interesting but too long a wait and no real end in sight.

It's quite plain that small, independent, spring manufacturers can't get the designs right.
We've been lucky/persistant enough to get Eibach involved. We've also had great insight from the original p1/wr99 designer, who opened the door at Eibach.
I've also discovered the intricacies of anschlagpuffers:

Is it difficult to get springs designed and made, without a massive R&D budget? - Yes it is. Is it then, equally difficult, to get the correct bump stops, to work with your particular chassis and lowered springs? - Yes it is.

^^^ Fair points ^^^
I appreciate what you're doing, thank you. I'm just frustrated because my springs are creaking and the rest of the car is now really good (due to Duncan@racedynamix).

I lost count a long time ago how many times the various spring combinations have been on/off since last year.
Some of which have been a total waste of time with springs manufactured and supplied from the small independents.
It has become a little tedious to say the least......hopefully there is an end/solution in sight.
With regard to the comments about BC coilovers.....it's your choice.
But IMHO any coilover set coming in at under £1000 is never going to last or match the life/usability of a good set of MacPhersons and quality matched springs.
The coilovers also rust up in a remarkably short period of time, making their main selling point of adjustability totally redundant.

I agree, I'm not liking the idea coilovers for less than £1k or even for road use so that leaves the question of what struts and springs? Excel Gs seem like the right choice for a classic turbo and at a reasonable cost so that's sorted, but it's the springs to go with them that I need.
