Lol fartin Martins having another argument, nothing new there then.

How is it possible that he is always right and everyone else is always wrong.

Is this you finally back from sucking off the Chinese Dave?

You'll be pleased to know that someone agrees with your sentiments on Mandela!!

Of course it would be perfect living in his little world of perfectness where he And everything around him is perfect. Meanwhile, back on planet Earth where real people live...

Please don't mention Thatcher on the same thread as a truly great world leader, thanks

I find you a strange sort, you rarely if ever have anything of substance to say, yet criticise those that do.

If you want to join the debate, then just say something about the subject. If your point is solid then there won't be an argument from me

I'm not casting judgment either way...I simply don't know enough about his entire life and the things he has done to do so. I'd be deeply suprised if anyone else on this thread does either no matter which camp they sit in.

There were thousands of people in the struggle, what set Mandela apart was his ability to forgive !

BTW if you were intelligent enough to understand my post you would realise I was neither slating Mandela nor supporting Thatcher.

Well it is one subject where I know more than many, but I'll give you the fact that even then I think unless you were directly involved you will never fully understand the issues surrounding apartheid and SA in those difficult times!

Martin the only person I criticise is you, go figure.

You mention debate, with you there is no debate you are always right, everyone else are always wrong.

Rather than trolling a car forum with your great intellect why are you not using some forum that offers a greater spread of knowledge, or are you maybe out of your depth on those sites?

Anyway, let's not spoil the thread.

No, but you don't need to be a historian to know that what Mandela was fighting against was pure evil

You were bemoaning the fact that people could overlook any perceived wroingdoings of Mandela yet not so of Thatcher.

Where your argument falls down is that Thatcher wasn't living in a country where she was oppressed simply down to the colour of her skin, no she was PM of a country with freedom of speech and opportunities for all yet in many people's eyes she destroyed many of the good things about that country whereas Mandela improved many things about his! That is why IMO at least she shoud not be mentioned in the same breath!

Whilst the death of a statesman of Nelson Mandela's standing is saddening, it was also saddening to see that it almost entirely covered the news this morning, on both TV channels, with little or no coverage of the devastation wrought in places like Whitby, the coastal towns between there and the Humber, Cleethorpes, Hull and the Trent bank villages as far inland as Owston Ferry. Several near me were under three feet of water, and again this morning.

The only place both ITV and the BBC went to was Clacton.
You could almost hear their thinking, "Not happening in London or the SE? Right, where the nearest seaside to London....?

Cameron came out and said how sorry he was for the death of Mandela, but not a word yet about how sorry he is for the folk living on the UK's east coast

I don't think that is fair as I hardly claim to have read up on that many things, but as a committed anti apartheid campaigner in the 80s I thought it best I try and understand all sides of the argument. So I have read quite extensively on this subject albeit not for quite some time.

I was still left with the opinion that you probably had to be there to truly understand it, but I think we can all agree that segregation and oppression based on skin colour/race is evil!

Apartheid was terrible, nobody -at least I hope not- is disagreeing with that...but does fighting against a terrible regime make it OK to murder innocent people...and were all his actions and those that supported him wholly justified by the regime?

I don't expect you to answer that question...because you can't, because you don't really know what he did and that is my point. That is all, I'm not judging I'm playing Devil's Advocate.

You need to go to the petrol heads section then, and leave the adults to the topical debates

sounds like the media prioritised correctly...I understand that north of Watford there are only sixteen TVs anyway (and five of those are in Scotland)?
