A legend RIP.

Wonder if his Subaru is for sale? Just heard on the news he left behind a great Legacy. No mention if it was a turbo.

Too soon perhaps

my Mrs is South African and been here for 10 years along with her parents, her Aunt is over for a month and they were all truly shocked after seeing it on the news yesterday. They all think that its a very bad thing he is dead as he was the only one who all the disputed parties/tribes listened to even though he has been out of power a long time.

Zuma is bent as a 9 bob note and the rest of the government just as bad. Was planning a trip there in October next year but may not if things go **** about tit.

Truly a great inspiration to the world though regardless of if you see him as a freedom fighter or terrorist.

RIP to a great man!

P.S. it wasnt a legacy turbo

Sad sad news.
One of the truly great human beings of the 20th century.
He stood up and defeated an insidious regime. It is doubtful whether any other person could have lead the transition from apartheid without massive blood-letting. His commitment to the future and ability to forgive ensured that Truth and Reconciliation process healed some terrible wounds.

Anyone calling this great man a terrorist needs to put those comments in some sort of context

RIP

As posted on the 1st page of this thread , he pleaded guilty to 156 acts of violence including terrorist bombings. That makes him a terrorist , no different to Gerry Adams or Bin Laden. The innocent people murdered by the UmKhonto we Sizwe can now rest in peace.

He was a freedom fighter, not a terrorist!

Even if this is true (and the chances are it isn't) are you seriously saying that this is the beginning and end of it?

If you look at the balance sheet of Mandela's life, he did so very much more good than bad. Why not mention that, rather than your rather bizarre summary of Mandela legacy?

This man was the epitomy of grace, dignity and forgiveness

Comparing him to Bin Laden just makes you look like an idiot btw!

unless you knew the man personally for a good portion of his life that statement makes you look like an idiot too...unless you would have us believe all the positive and ignore all the negative hype around the man.

He may have done some commendable things in the latter part of his life, but some of the things he was involved in in the earlier parts of his life are inexcusable.

LOL

So the peaceful reconcilliation of SA was 'commendable'(which undoubtedly saved many many lives) but fighting against a regime that oppressed millions murdered 20,000 people and jailed countless thousand others was 'inexcusable'

I'll leave it to the Indian PM, his words on Mandela were the most telling for me

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said: "This is as much India's loss as South Africa's. He was a true Gandhian. His life and work will remain a source of eternal inspiration for generations to come.''

It's fair enough that people want to forget the past and remember Mandela for his later years and mourn the passing of an old man.

However it's sad that Margaret Thatcher wasn't extended the same courtesy by many on here.
