Inspiring, brave guy. Took up a fight which was right, unlike the ***** that are in court today for murdering a soldier.

RIP Nelson Mandela.

Africa, heck the world, needs more statesmen like him.

At least he is now at peace after a lifetime of fighting.

Nelson Mandela was the head of UmKhonto we Sizwe, (MK), the terrorist wing of the ANC and South African Communist Party. At his trial, he had pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilising terrorist bombing campaigns, which planted bombs in public places, including the Johannesburg railway station. Many innocent people, including women and children, were killed by Nelson Mandela’s MK terrorists. Here are some highlights

-Church Street West, Pretoria, on the 20 May 1983

-Amanzimtoti Shopping complex KZN, 23 December 1985

-Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court, 17 March 1988

-Durban Pick ‘n Pay shopping complex, 1 September 1986

-Pretoria Sterland movie complex 16 April 1988 – limpet mine killed ANC terrorist M O Maponya instead

-Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, 20 May 1987

-Roodepoort Standard Bank 3 June, 1988

I read his autobiography some years back and was deeply moved by what he went through. It's a good read and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

That said I've been to SA and won't be returning. Horrible, violent place. His legacy is sadly not as great as it could have been.

Undoubtedly a hugely significant politician of our times.

Nelson Mandela’s MK terrorists didn't generally mow down unarmed protesters

Not often I agree with you, but on all acounts I do here. Mandela would be the first to admit South Africa has a very long way to go.

To xx-Ian-xx who posted above I would suggest you read his autobiography as well as several other recognised books on apartheid in SA to get a neutral handle on what happened!

This thread is not the place to start an argument so I will leave that there!

192 charges of 'sabotage' reduced to just 4 at his trial.
No murders.

To some - a terrorist, to others - a freedom fighter.

Really? I would argue that Winston Churchill was a far more significant world leader. I might even argue the same about about Thatcher but would get shot down in flames.

Let's argue in every thread. No one is immune.

Nelsons Autobiography could be just like Lance Armstrong's.

Ironic post of the night, seeing she'd settled on Mandela being a terrorist

I fear a power struggle once the dust has settled. I hope I'm wrong.

Exactly, it's a legacy of a corrupt ANC which has a stranglehold on political life, a dangerous anti-white 'youth wing' within said ANC, and a country riddled with violent crime, rape, and HIV. Of course, it could have been worse without Mandala, but the country could easily go fully down hill and become a Zimbabwe now.
