As for flirting with 400, yea the standard box will cope but for how long is questionable. I'd be more concerned about the longevity of the standard engine at that power.
Thought as much, that's why I was confused AET wanted me to change everything for a VF35 They would have been in the money if they said "you could run 300 with headroom." That would have been a nice step up from the then 220 odd.

What actually destroys the WRX engine at that power is it the torque forcing the pistons (or crank etc) down too forcibly? the explosion pressure too big for the rings/pistons to handle? or heat build up thinning oil through increased friction due to parts moving faster. If the latter would an oil cooler, colder plugs uprated thermostat, water pump and water wetter etc etc increase tolerances?
