its not pedantic at all, its two completely different types of product with completely different properties and usages.

 

Yes they are, but it's just the interpretation or mis-interpretation as it were.

Some people say "I'm waxing my car" but they use polish, some people say "I'm polishing my car" but use wax.

I'll rephrase, "I'm cleaning and protecting my car..."
