Police Helicopter crash
#91
The helicopter was flying for a good 90mins beforehand with no problems and for both engines to go at the same time in order for him to enter an auto rotation, fuel contamination although possible is highly unlikely. Would explain the ''mis-firing'' reported by an eye witness but does not explain a failed auto attempt, rotors stopping and then the crash. Eye witness accounts are notoriously unreliable also so the mis-firing and the tumbling may be red herrings.
Most are in agreement that it was a failed auto rotation attempt but anything more than that, it's got everyone guessing as to why and to why it failed.
There's even mutterings of pilot incapacitation and a medical issue but really, that's just clutching at straws. The fact that he's had his funeral already I suspect rules that one out.
An interesting one for us aviation enthusiasts though

Unless the misfiring noise was in fact blade slap but amplified by the nearby buildings and close proximity. Cant speak for full size helicopters but the model ones 'fart' at high blade pitch.

Whatever happened needs to be found, for all valid reasons. I don't think it will bring the dead ones back, but their relatives might get some answers.
My next door neighbour witnessed a similar scene (if not as bad) like that on 7th Dec. in a happy market place. A car at the traffic lights suddenly went straight through the bollards and ploughed into the Saturday Christmas market stalls in a nearby town Mold. It happened in a split of a second. Scaffoldings came down crashing with deafening noise. My neighbour Mrs. H. told me that everyone was screaming and running everywhere! One person landed on the bonnet of that crashing car, another one got trapped underneath. Another one got thrown up in the air like a doll. In total, 8 people were injured; some of them had to be cut free, and airlifted to the hospitals. Hopefully all of them will survive with some luck, but it goes to show how these sudden things can happen. The driver of the car is being questioned by Police. God knows what happened there.
