I would be interested, but the fact of the matter is that I'm not!!
This is Scoobynet - I wouldn't expect anything less these days.
It's just fun to watch

I used to have a 3,2 carrera ( air cooled )
And loved it. , it was a little raw and agricultural but once you'd got to grips with the quirky handling it was brilliant , you know you are driving it and with a sports exhaust sounds fantastic
in the two or three years of ownership it never missed a beat ( and it's considered an old car )
My bro had a 964 carrera 4 and never got to grips with it and also had a few niggles
I've no interest in the 996 /7 for the most part they seem very bland and costly to maintain
If I was going to get another it would have to be air cooled and lhd also
A nice lhd 3.2 with a g50 box is my 911 of choice
Certainly not as refined as a Scooby and not as quick as a highly modded one
But you won't be breaking it for spares to recoup you're money niether will you be on here every waking hour asking about various issues it's developed
You'll just be to busy blasting round with a grin on ya face

It was pretty good mpg wise , can't remember off hand but they not lugging a lot of weight around , certainly better than a Scooby fuel wise
The pedals are offset on the earlier rhd 911,s I've driven a few and for me it spoils the drive , and the sacrifice of lhd is worth it

I wonder if I've owned 300 pairs of socks in my lifetime? Last year my favourite all time pair were some thermal ones from M&S. But how wrong I was since I discovered Nike sports socks earlier this year. I've now replaced all my socks with Nike and would never go back to M&S. Who needs thermal anyway?

If I was buying a 996 then Id either buy a car which cost sufficiently little to allow me to rebuild the engine if it ever needed it, or Id be looking for a car which had had a recent Hartech rebuild (Hartech and no one else, not even Autofarm).
Id bet on a Boxster or 911 engine before a high output Impreza hatch 2.5l but its true that certain models have issues. Porsche Cars NA released failure rates last year in response to a class action lawsuit.
