I did get beat by an STI in the previous race, messed 3rd up, but I then badly beat his time in my next run.

"I was once waiting quietly for my mate in my 1.4 Cossie rep outside his house and his next door neighbour came out and said calmly can you move we are eating our Sunday dinner? I pulled the car 5 yards further down the road whilst unbeknownst to me that my mate was walking towards the car anyway."

Haha, sorry.
To tell you the truth I was looking at type r's before getting the impreza, it was the AWD that swung it in the end.
Love the high revving engine in the civic.

civic Type r ,omg I bought one (fn2 ) with vetch controller , full milltek , induction
etc
got the train to wales , didn't test drive it , bought it , 3miles down the road it was up for sale
the most boaring car iv ever drove
payed 7200 for it , took all the mods off, and swapped it for a 54 plate m3 running 367bhp

silly of me not to test drive , but I wasn't going all that way not to get it , and I knew I'd make a nice profit from it
sold the m3 for 9400 3 months later

Watch out Stu, the VTEC-loving lynchmob will be along in a minute to tell you how the Vtec is there to make up for the complete lack of torque and how you must not have been driving the car properly otherwise you'd have loved it (I.e thrashing the complete bollock$ out of it constantly).

I never get this hang up Scooby owners have with VTEC cars. That is how they are suppsoed to be driven, it's how they are designed, you rev them... how hard is that to understand?

If you don't like thrashing an engine don't buy a Honda VTEC. Only a subnormal gibbon with cotton wool for brains would ever buy a car without test driving it so it's hardly a fair criticism saying you have to rev it as you know that within 5 minutes of the test drive FFS!

P.S. Honda S2000 - best car I ever owned

I would have thought the long engine friendly ratios on the WRX would mean the engine can take in excess of the 350bhp max STI owners usually quote.

I've read several accounts of WRX's running 400 now without issues, I think in the notorious mapper thread a mapper was saying he'd reluctantly mapped a few to 400 too, I'd like to know if they are still running.

I'd also like to know if saving 300lb of weight puts more, negligable or less strain on an engine/gearbox.

They haven't had the best press those ones. Mine 's a pre-facelift EP3 and I love it. Great track car and doesn't need working that hard to keep pace up. Obviously there is a noticeable lack of urgency climbing back into after driving the Subaru all week but it's a totally different car for a different use to me.

unless you have modded for a very low spool its not like your impreza is going anywhere under 3k anyway lol. not exatly that diffrent from a vtec. vtec is just variable cam timing except it kicks in sharply

AVCS on scoobys is the same thing really

edit:
actually
wikipedia lied
its not the same at all!

That's where the smaller faster spooling turbo comes into play, that and the fact that the WRX PPP makes it's peak torque sooner and there's also more of it.

I'd like to see how fast a CTR is vs a impreza on a motorway, flooring it in top gear at 70 mph. Though I doubt that I will as I, like most impreza owners, will be long gone by the time the vtec comes in....
