the reason i want to know is because its a better car so:
  • this will show me where to look to to upgrade the car in the future
  • i can then nick bits off the sti if i want to upgrade that bit on the cheep but not go for a full upgrade
  • im curious as to whats better about the sti. why cant i upgrade my car to be better than it?
Because you would cherry pick the parts you placed most value on and then get to a point where you would swear blind it's as good. Quite simply it wont be. The parts difference is vast, economically it would be pointless

why is it stronger? suposidly the bottom (or should i say center since its a H4 lol) is the same?
some black some colour coded, but different design anyway.

yup avcs is that.

yes the engine is built from better components and will take 450 bhp in standard form where as the wrx is about 350 tops.

5 speed wrx gearbox is very weak and the six speed can take big power, the swap costs 2k, one very good reason

im confused mate, what exactly do you want to know, as im offering genuine advice.
what do you want from your car??

if you want big power a wrx is an expensive route to take.

if you want a mild mannered reasonably quick road car the wrx is fine.

It's all bollox and very subjective anyway. Power is nothing without control, and a lot of it is down to the nut behind the wheel.

Back in 2005 I spent £12k on modifying my 6 month old WRX, and you know what when I think back, what a tw@t I was!!

Is my old WRX with £12k spent on it any better then the STi im driving now, the answer would be No, as most the parts come from a STi in the first place and cost a bloody fortune in doing it!!! And im speaking from experience, dont go down that route, you can sit there and say money is not a issue, but if money was not a issue, you would be driving a better car then a Subaru!!

My old 04 WRX!

Note the STi stickers on my WRX!!!

Lol, you got your answer ages ago BUT this topic is WAY bigger than your OP so **** off and let us get on with it.

The STI boys aren't interested in facts, like the fact that the WRX has a faster 0-60 time and better gear ratios, nicer colour interior, less drag, lighter, faster spooling turbo, costs £4k less and will hand an sti it's *** off the lights.

All they can talk about is a stronger engine & gearbox and slightly better brakes, and it will get to 100mph slightly quicker, but that only counts when they already lost the race.

Only joking by the way.

this is the highest displacement car iv ever owned let alone the fact is also my first turbo

my hobby is modifying cars, scratch that actually modifying anything is my hobby but cars are a big part off it.

the reason i didnt buy and sti: i bought the car just befor my 21st. buying the sti would have just been stupid (not to mention suicidal)

this is my daily driver. what i want out off it is fun. so far its giving me lots off that.

id like to make the car look a bit better. i hate the WRX spoiler and the sti one is a bit barry boy but it just looks right sat on the boot off thease cars so ill do that. i want a splitter. mabey an sti one mabey an after market

im aspiring to go up to about 300bhp over then next few years

i might go more than that if i really want to but then that will be 6 speed and forged internals time ect

ill probably pollybush the whole thing and im not sure what to do about the suspension really. its so refined as a DD that i dont want to ruin it with rockhard coilovers. brakes need to be sharper aswell. ill do them at some point

im basicly just going to make the car mine. there are not meny cars that id want in standard form as theres always little bits i want to be different

Think what you could get with that £12k now, apart from the 6spd box I doubt any of it would be from an STI.

How things have moved on in Subaru circles!! not many cars where running 400bhp back then, now it seems that everyone runs 400bhp now days!! My blob was running 320bhp at the time which was good power for a WRX:, Same as parts, they where expensive, paid £900 for my Prodrive rims used from WUZ(if he still on here) things like STi TMIC where £250-300, not sure what they go for now, now you have FMIC for £199 and uprated clutches for £350, and places that can re-flow your standard injectors etc???

This made me chuckle. I was looking for a wrx with a promise to the gf that the remainder of my budget would be going on her engagement ring.

I bought a wr1. The rings next, I promise.

I reckon it's all just down to what suits the individual and their needs.

So a Blob WRX PPP does the same 0-60 as a 2.5 STi PPP

Must be a Prodrive masterpiece the blob WRX PPP, have Prodrive come up with anything quicker since then???
