I was a PC first person shooter to the extreme in the past (used to play CS at a very competitive level) and was always after that that extra bit of fps advantage. Tbh this time around I was tempted back to PC but realistically I was looking at £800 and another £200+ for a new monitor. And you know you will end up upgrading at least the gfx card in the next 3 years. For the average gamer there is almost too much choice in the PC world. Yes you can pay someone to build it but you still need to look into what components you need and are best bang for buck. Most just want to walk into a shop and come out with a box they know will play whatever game they chuck at it over the next 6+ years no fuss other than the odd OS or game patch to download. There is also the advantage that everyone is on a level playing field rather than someone have a more powerful PC, faster monitor etc etc.

Most people already have a TV they can just bosh their console on. For PC you need a dedicated monitor to get the best out of it = another purchase cost on top. That setup you linked will have cost more than a full loaded nextgen console just in monitor hardware.

But the biggest area of win for consoles imho is the social side. People hook them up to the TV in the lounge and entertain the entire family. Rather than have them stuck at a desk on a PC. Kids are bought consoles by their parents and establish a favourite based on which console most of their friends are on. To most of them playing the latest games with their friends is better than being able to play a game with the best graphics. That brand allegiance stays with them. Most who later on are hardcore gamers will no doubt move to PC if they can afford to but will till no doubt have a console too.

 

Why don't you buy it off TT then?

 

Ditto for the PS4. Found Zavvi were the only place offering release day single game console bundles (Shopto had but only had expensive bundles left). I will still be amazed if mine arrives next Friday as only ordered it on Nov 10th. But fingers crossed.

 

Has anyone played BF4 on XBone yet and if so how is it?

 

I ordered my ps4 last week and had to pay for it last night, unsure if that means anything for release date. Not that I'm bothered it's my Xmas present.

My friend overseas has got it he told me to get it as soon as my console arrives it's that good,he says it's so good he played it for 9 hours straight,but I think i will give it a miss as I have never been too good at first person shooters but I am very good at third person aspect games.SJ.

 

Suprised nobody has mentioned that the first official update for the Xbox One has bricked a lot of the consoles rendering them virtually useless.

I had the issue with update stuck in a loop. I just did two full HARD resets and it was fine.

I wonder if the E100 code is related to FW being interrupted part way through updating - I suspect it is.

Yeah no worries mate my console is UK stock,I just got a lot of friends in the states who give me the 411 about what's doing well over there and what my friends games are being played so I know what to get when I play online.SJ.

 

I read SJ's post to say that he has got one from Zavvi - not from the US.

USA consoles can be used over here, but as the console has region locking in place, it's whether the software is region locked. XBOX games normally are, so that's when you have a problem with using PAL games on a NTSC-U console.

 

The one I had delivered yesterday is being collected tonight. Easy money and better than the interest I would have received on savings.

Now, do I put that money towards another one for Christmas?

Anyways had a good play of it last night and I flipping love it, Forza is amazing the graphics are so good it's like watching real cars on the TV and FIFA is quality so smooth miles better then 360 and voice controlling the Substitutes and tactics is well cool
