XBox One or PS4?

Sadly, that is what the first gen games will be. Hardly any better visually. But I expect them to improve as they learn how to get more out of them.
It's unlikey any future gens will make the same leap pas we saw from PS1 to PPS2, or to PS3. It's diminishing returns on visuals. However, the amount of stuff on the screen that they can move around with the extra grunt, or bigger levels, or larger amounts of people on online play, that's where the difference will be more obvious.

Would now be a bad time to drop in these demonstrations of where the PC has got to visuals-wise?

This years GFX cards are not twice as good as last years, and they don't look twice as good on your monitor. Sadly, whatever platform you are on, it really is dminishing returns.

Oh I accept that PCs have better visuals than consoles, but even so, they are not leaping forward either.

Having said that, a couple of years ago 1080p gaming was where it was at. Then it was 1440/1600p, with 1440p being 77% more pixels and 1600p being 97% more pixels, quite a substantial difference in pixel count alone. We then have 4k gaming starting to filter into the top echelons, which is twice the pixel count again over 1600p.
So, in terms of the work being performed by the hardware, we're still continuing to make significant advances in pixel count alone, let alone the higher resolution textures, increased detail meshes, etc etc.

I'm not sure why you think that a GFX card has to be twice as good in only 12 months - that seems an aggressive timescale.

Only a few hours till I pick up my midnight XBOX ONE. Quite excited myself, although GAME have cocked up and also sent me a home delivery, due to be delivered tomorrow.
Beef,
It's a moot point IMO as those examples are simply not mind blowing.... What is mind blowing is the cost to realise that quality. Perhaps I'll think differently once I have a 4k monitor and quad GPU!
I'm going to be slightly more sensible this time.... Multi platform and I'll be sticking with PC. Exclusive titles only for me on the XBO & PS4.

Let us know your thoughts on the new consoles, I'll probably wait for the price reduction.

So aptly in the racing world they say "The **** stops when the flag drops"..... the flag has well and truly dropped in the case of the XBO.
If I'm being honest I was pessimistic as to what this gen was going to deliver, over and above the 360 generation. Forza 5 has genuinely bowled me over. It looks stunning and plays so well, that it is a clear leap (imo) over what the 360 has done before. You tend to get sucked in by the hype, videos and screen shots..... but seeing and playing this finished in the flesh is worlds apart from my built up impression.
Firstly, if this is what the XBO can do at launch and the PS4 is so much more powerful..... I can't wait to see what is truly possible with this latest gen (from both camps). The detail of the environments is a different level as to what I've seen before from a console racer before, all at 60fps and 1080p. There are so many little touches that just make the overall experience that much better. The use of the XBO trigger rumble is subtle (again I didn't know what to expect), but it really does add to the gameplay in Forza. You get a subtle feedback when it changes gear etc.
Something I've never used much before has been the "in-car" view..... in Forza 5 it's soooo much better and feels "right".
The game is not as deep (by looking at the career mode) as previous Forza's (there is still plenty). Apparently this is because of the timescales for release..... again, I'd hate to see what we'll get when devs don't have launch constraints then!
The XBO is as quiet as a mouse and games don't have to fully download before you can start playing (I think Forza had done around 15% and was playable from that point).
A Day One OS patch is required (500MB) - which only took about 5mins - quick and stress free.
I'm suitably impressed so far..... which I didn't think I would be.

I went to Tesco this morning, not to buy an XBO but whilst there I looked at the stands - I happened to spy one of the sales boxes on show.
At this point I spied a member of the electrical dept, I asked them if they had stock and she confirmed that they did.
I then selected a couple of games and took them to the electrical counter to pay, after 15 minutes of waiting I get to the front of the queue only to be told that they didn't actually have any stock at all, preorder or not.
I'm an impatient sod and as I've got a long weekend off I thought I'd buy an XBO as an impulse purchase, I was looking forward to playing Forza as well.
Oh well, I'll have to wait a week now to collect my PS4.
Is it true that Driving Club has been delayed, plus is Watch Dogs available for the XBO as hasn't it been delayed for the PS4?

The fact that Drive Club has been delayed has really cheesed me off though, I was looking forward to playing that or Forza.
Oh well, the PS3 won't be consigned to the cupboard quite yet then.

I'll have a FIFA DAY ONE pack (it will be unopened) for sale later today, if anyone wants to make me a reasonable offer (I'm not out to totally rip anyone off).
PM me if you're interested.

Even if you don't want to build it yourself, go here, pay the ~10% premium, and have it built for you ready to go:
http://3xs.scan.co.uk/Category.asp?S...rCategoryID=58
Regardless of how you end up with a running system, the subsequent steps are no different to a console:
1) Connect to power
2) Connect to TV
3) Connect controller
You then install Steam (30 seconds - the installer nearly fits on a floppy disk!) , download from your extensive, pre-existing library of games, some of which you might already have progress through (cloud sync FTW), and get straight back into it.
You're not locked into Steam either. You have Origin, Battle.net, GOG.com, ordinary retail (if you're weird and want to physically get up to collect your media).
Forza looks alright, but when you can have racing games that look like this...

Much as I want to Shaun I've got to pay for my car tax this month (I had pre-ordered a XBO but that was on a creditcard so would have been needing paying next month).
