XBox One or PS4?

Let's face it, once the new console comes out the old games will look rubbish so you won't go back. If you're that bothered just keep your PS3 somewhere so you can use it if you want to.

I know what to mean and I thought the same with the PS3. I've got a release version of the PS3 (fat boy version) and I'm pretty sure that one can play PS2 games but I never have and I've never wanted too to be honest. Once the new games come out the old stuff seems to age very quickly and the interest drops when you could be playing the new stuff.

I still play PS1 games on my PS3, and it if played PS2 games there's a few of then I would still play. The games don't look good, but some of them are still superb.
That said, it wouldn't be a deal breaker if didn't play old games.

I'll probably go PS4 but not for a good while yet, there'll have to be a few games i really want before i'll invest in a new console and with GTA5 and GT5 still coming out on PS3 there's no need for me to upgrade for a good while yet.
Will online still be free on the PS4? as that was rather annoying on the Xbox360 hence me hardly ever using the thing, the wife likes it for the fitness stuff with the kinect but its pretty useless to me without any online.

I suspect that the next gen of games won't look that much better than current releases for the current gen. Increase in graphic fidelity requires an exponential increase in power.... the next gen platform will not provide that.
The difference between the last gen and current, will be greater than the current and next gen.
This has probably been one of the first times in hardware changes, that both manufacturers will still be strongly supporting their current gens for some years to come.

Check out any comparison between current multi platform games with their ports on the PC platform, at the same resolution but with all the added PC effects turned on. That is a strong indication as to something the next gen of consoles will be aiming to achieve (but won't in reality).
Comparing a like for like game across all platforms won't realise any "jaw dropping" differences imo, based on comparisons that have been around for some time using the current gen and PC hardware.
Advances in graphics have seen a plateaux being reached in recent years. When you start to place emphasis on smooth gameplay @ 60fps and an internal resolution of 1080p.... you'll be surprised how difficult that seemingly "easy" proposition will be to deliver upon, whilst maintaining major steps forward in graphical engine enhancements.

I am still holding out on getting either or moving back to PC. Part of me wants to wait til release and see what proper gameplay looks like (not the E3 recordings running on PC hardware simulating PS4 graphic quality). But then I think I want to play BF4 from day one. Although it seems to be released a few weeks earlier on PC

I think I may just take a trip into town early on release day and see if any of the usual places get any extra PS4 stock. Seems no point in gambling on a pre-order now as no one guaranteeing availability on release day.

Being an early orderer of the PS4 on amazon they sent me an email saying I could upgrade to a bundle....and gave me a deadline. I might get the kill zone bundle or may just stick to the 'solus' pack.

I think this has the potential to blow at least one leg off each of MS & Sony. If some how it was all packaged up as a console like experience (i.e. it just works), gains better adoption (game wise) than Steam already does...... it's probably MS & Sony's worst nightmare.
I've gone fall circle.... which is mental in many ways. I have both the XB and PS4 on pre-order which I will still go through with, yet I have just pre-ordered both BF4 and COD Ghosts on the PC. Why? Because they are cheaper and will look much better than the console versions.

Pre ordered the Xbox One on released date, purely for Forza 5 and GOW, always been Xbix usually get the PS a year later, so that will probe happen as well.
Gutted no GTA V but guess it will come on digital download after 6 months or so.......glad FIFA 14 is also now free with 1st batch Xbox one preorders well happy with that!
I've pre-ordered 4 Xbox Ones hoping to make some money like I did with Wiis and Wii U at Xmas time when there all sold out!

I'm gonna wait until after Xmas when they drop the price to try and stimulate some new year sales. Nothing is out in Nov/Dec that makes me think I HAVE to have it then!

Hopefully a mate that worked as SCEE has sorted me a release day PS4 for £300 but I will believe it when I have it in my hands lol. Other than I will wait until Xmas / Jan.

Neither. PC can give you more, for less.
With things like SteamOS, Big Picture, the Steam controller, etc there seems to be less and less reason to consider a locked-down console.

Ok, the games are cheaper, and the mods are better, but once you add in the constant upgrades, the time lost getting driver x because game y has bug for your rig etc etc, the there's little in it.
I was PC gamer for years, but switched to consoles for all those reasons above.
My PS3 gets automatically updated, I don't have to think about it. I haven't had to upgrade sine I got it in 2007, and it's still playing the latest games. Do they look as good as on a current high end gaming rig? Of course not, but it looks fine and I didn't have to fart about putting new components in or building a brand new PS3 to get it play COD9 etc.
Difficult to quantify the games cost difference, but from an effort POV, there's no contest.
I'm not saying it's foolish to game on a PC, I would love to do it, but for me (and the majority of gamers, it would seem) it just ain't worth the hassle.

I looked at jumping back to PC but for something decent to play BF4 you are looking at closer to £1k tbh + I would have wanted a new 200mhz monitor to make the most of it. Thats a big difference before you get anywhere near driver issues etc. But I for one could not justify that price.

Depends on what you mean by that. You could probably get a decent powered PC for close to the price of a console, but it will struggle to play the next gen of games, and most definitely won't play the generation after that unless you want your graphics to look like Minecraft!

It can go wrong when someone cuts corners, or builds badly, or tinkers with it - but if you choose solid, proven components and take your time while building, you end up with a solid stable gaming platform that requires very minimal maintenance. Windows Updates and device-specific control panels greatly simplify updating these days, and I personally go weeks or months at a time between driver updates; in reality, most games these days 'Just Work'.
When it comes to the cost of a PC, many people have a PC anyway for other purposes, so in reality you're only paying for the difference to uplift its performance. Even then, £700 will get you something that will decimate even the next-gen consoles performance wise.
