Nexus 7 does look good. I'd only consider a direct purchase from Google. Who knows what Samsung and the other's - especially the cheap one's - have installed on your device and the Nexus seems to be the only device that gets timely operating system updates.

Samsung galaxy tab2 10.1 is OK I think.

My preference was to to get the Nexus 10, but there were a lot of supply problems back then.

Ultimately I guess it was only a matter of time before the competition caught up with Apple IMO.

Which one is better - I guess it depends on what you use it for.
For me, general surfing the net and watching movie's while away is about as much as I need it for.

If that's all you're doing then yes, it's a good device. Chrome is a great browser and playing movies isn't exactly rocket science. I doubt it'll have the longevity of an Apple machine though.

You're probably right, I bought my son an ipad a couple of years ago, and in fairness it does feel of much better quality in comparison

I'm still sporting a two year old iPad with no intention of replacing it. If I use a retina version then go back to mine I want a new one, but it doesn't last long.

I think I'm going to swap my Ipad 2 for a Kindle Fire 7".

You could probably get a fair bit of cash back.

But from something more capable, if you don't want a laptop that is

Agreed, Got my brother one as a little pressie for Christmas, he loves it and it works perfectly. He's not down with the internets, so this was a good entry level way of getting him involved (he doesn't frigging well put it down now).

iPads are built well etc. but are just a little too restrictive in some ways, plus they cost a bomb when you could do the same with a so called (and not my opinion) 'inferior' piece of tech from another manufacturer.

To stick with the analogy, no point in buying an M3 for a new driver when a fiesta will do

Personally I'll be sticking with Android/MS. I started with Apples though, Apple IIe, original Macintosh, I nearly bought an Apple Newton! (dodged a bullet there).
Android/windows based devices are just more accessible, better spread of prices, better range of devices available in line with peoples skills and needs and generally don't have such a weird, almost religious (to the point of violence against iDoubters), following.

The again, Andy, you are coming across as a little obsessed
