When I upgraded I baulked at the price of new AP's, so waited for a 2nd hand pair to pop up on here. I did look at the other well known big brake kits but the feedback on the AP's was universally positive and I knew those were the ones I really wanted. I spoke to Godspeed, Aztec, AS Performance, and these guys ( http://circuitsupplies.com/ ) recently when replacing my rotors.

Before parting with money I'd definitely speak to one or a combination of specialists. Free advice can be the best 'mod' you can get. All these firms know their stuff, although circuit supplies and AS Performance were quick to deal with my AP related query and seemed to know these brakes very well.

Yeah I can see how that makes sense, never thought of it that way. Just figured they were just a good quality product by BMW but I do agree about the binary pedal feel.

We get one of these threads about once a week lately, I don't have any experience of D2 or K sport, but the general consensus has always been AP, Alcon or if you have very deep pockets Powerstations Porsche kit, and i'm yet to hear of a unhappy customer of any of the above three.

I have AP 4Pots and the make my car feel how that Evo looks, and I don't have the best rubber or pads, Falken 452 tyres and ds 2500 pads, but I can rip my face off over and over on the road and they don't fade and the feel stays the same.

I think they are worth the extra few hundred quid, come sale time you can whip them off and refit the standard ones, and there resale value will be higher too.

That kit on the evo is AP 6-pot callipers, 362mm discs with DS3000 pads

all in all probably cheaper than the Porsche kit?

Same as - it was the price of the AP Racing stuff that put me off too.

My K-Sport kit cost me about half the price of a new AP set and at 440bhp with EBC Blue Stuffs (which in comparison to Ferodo, Carbotech or equivalents are probably classed as a "budget" pad) I've not yet managed to cook them or had to throw an anchor out the window yet to stop!
I'd say AP's are possibly OTT for many people on here especially those with low to mid 300's or people who are never going to track their cars, but if I had got the cash and can afford the best I'd probably buy AP too.

Also - re the points of over servo'd cars, I personally prefer the progressive nature of the Impreza's brakes - I get in other cars and promptly end up smacking my head on the dashboard the brakes are so sensitive - but then on a quicker car you probably want the brakes more progressive anyway - as per the binary comments above
