Do you remember when Imprezas used to turn heads?

An extremely poor design 5 years ago is still an extremely poor design today. It is bloody awful to look at and a world away from the balanced deisgn of the original. Of course the immense numbers of sales of the Impreza since 2007 would prove my theory wrong You bought one so you are going to defned it.... I like many others have moved on to greener and better pastures! The car was an icon, but now it is just an overpriced unreliable monstrosity!

If I ever got an old Impreza again in the future, I would be looking for a very good condition STI classic of some sort.

But turn the tables for a moment or too you wouldn't be over enthralled at someone slagging your pride and joy off you spent thousands on would you....No I guessed not..
Yes maybe you don't like the design and you think it looks awful. That is not entirely down to the demise in sales alone, think about it for a moment or two. SWRT ended, No rally car = no fan base, To which in turn = no customers that and the horrendously sh!te engine, Expensive road tax & fuel costs.
For me non of that matters, money is easy come easy go i couldn't care less, I like my choice and stand by it..

That said I don't think you need any right to be here, it's a public forum that is free to register on and I haven't seen any rules anywhere stating you must blindly love all Imprezas even the sh1tty ones like the hatch!
I certainly wouldn't start telling people to bugger off no matter what their opinion of the marque today! IMO in the 90s the Impreza was one of the best cars money could buy as per the OP, but that is no longer the case! Sad, but true!

I remember seeing an Impreza parked at a rally stage in mid Wales, it was green with gold wheels and that was around 96. It was getting more attention than the 6R4s and Cossies in the rally!
My car is always turning heads around my area always get good comments too

I rarely turn my head these days, sick of seeing 'not for the faint hearted' chavved up examples
There are still a few nice examples about, however it is now a rare sight IMHO

I still catch a few people mirin the car, although I think most the time its the 'what the **** is making that noise' look - they are expecting something meaty and then they see 2.0l Impreza.

2) Couldn't give a f**k what people think my car is?
3) The irony of a Scoob fan calling someone else's car over its colour when 90% of all Scoobs bought are blue 'cos it's like a world rally car innit'

I get plenty of positive comments. If I get a young guy behind the counter in the petrol station I'm nearly guaranteed to get a comment. Was at the lights last week with the window down and an elderly guy in a C63 shouted over "Lovely, had one the same shape and loved it" and gave a big thumbs up.
My biggest worry was police attention, but so far only been pulled over once. A quick check of the insurance and he spent 15 minutes chatting about them...

1) Why do you want people to stare at you? I don't! Maybe you have a minute **** or something!

Oof, there's the nerve . Was it the repmobile comment? Wouldn't say I like people staring, but the odd comment here and there does give me a nice warm gooey feeling.
And most Merc's are bought because they're shapeless fleet cars, what's your point?

You can honestly call my car all you like, the real laugh being that you have no idea what it is

It's that well know repmobile, the AMG SL55.
You see that is what I find funny. You appreciated the C63 you saw probably because you are a true petrolhead, but I find a lot of Subaru fans these days to be utterly myopic and even more strangely to not know virtually anything about any other cars except Subarus. This was borne out in the thread I posted in the gallery section featuring my last AMG.... lots of opinons.. most of them unfounded LOL!
I have had 5 Scoobs in my time, but also a Boxster, an Elise, a Jag, two AMGs, 4 Honda Type Rs, Golfs, Corollas etc. etc. I have been very lucky to own all of those and consider myself a petrolhead as I appreciate a lot of different cars/marques and enjoy owning different cars.
I genuinely believe Subaru made a huge mistake with the hatch on a number of fronts and would stand by that opinion, but that doesn't mean I hate the marque now. The classic shape Impreza will always be an icon to me and I am very glad that I owned several of them in the last 17 years. They were/are truly great cars!

theres not many new cars that really make my head turn, maybe a vxr8/new m3's look nice and the gtr but mercs really do (to me) look horrible and i dont give them a second glance, yes they are fast and they sound like all hell breaking loose but they are just not for me-sorry guys if you own one im not having a stab at ya
the cars that turn my heads are older cars
nice clean rs turbo
astra gte 16v
opel manta
capri brooklands 280
escort cosworth
classic imprezas
older evos
i think the newer cars become the more the same they become, too much focus on driver aids/electric this and power that and not enough focus on what really counts

My first one was a 2 yr old Cat.
I got it home from the dealers and parked it outside my local.
The number of people who came in and said "have you seen that car out there?!"
It looked gorgeous but mainly it was something people hadn't seen before (there was only one other Subaru in our town then).
In recent years they are two a penny and hence the rarity factor has gone.
However, most of my headturners are young (very young) people.
It always seems to be 7-10 year olds that shout "Subaru !" when I'm driving down the street.
That I think sums the marque up. It's crossed the generation gap.
