SGF I did honestly think about it but it just wouldn't be the same. It wouldn't swim around in circles when the parrot fish went close and it wouldn't come to the surface and splash when I put my finger in so I decided to do the best thing and I buried it in the garden.

The thing is and I know this is Geoff's thread about his cat but I think next doors cat dug it up and ate it.....

ok, no worries.

i have seen some very cool stands though- for fish they do one with a double glazed front that is filled with water so it looks like the fish is under water!

I use to have a pet Squirrel called Cyril the Squirrel. He was great! We got him because he fell out of a tree after our now dead dog barked at him. The trouble was he broke one of his legs when he hit the ground and we put a splint on him but it was no good, he died anyway. I think he died because he was unable to reach his nuts and it must of been hard for him to see his nuts but not be able to eat them. Wish I had thought about having him stuffed and mounted but I was only a child at the time and so did not know such things existed

nice to see so many animal lovers on scoobynet did not think there was many after i replied to a past post about cats sitting on your car, one person said shoot them so i replied if you shoot the cat i hope your kids die ,so next night i come home to find 78 emails calling me a animal rights activist etc etc and i should not be on scoooby net as there cars are more important than animals well hope your cars get scratched and if you send me any more emails about being a animal lover and what you would do to me and my cats i will shove my 12 bore up your ****

Merely asked if you checked where your cat had been each and every night so that you make ammends for its anti-social behaviour. I'm pleased to learn you live 2 miles from anyone. I wish all Cat owners would follow suchh a prime example of exemplary Cat ownership.

 

Dsmith - to some people, their cats / pets are everything - the only "family" that they have. I used to work in the local hospital in IT where one of the tasks was to print off the appointment lists.

The number of times I saw elderley ladies (in particular - occasionaly an elderly chap) cancel their appointment because a beloved pet had died. They were suffering from grief and loss the same as if it had been their child. That pet was their world. They got sent to the bottom of the appointment list as it was not considered a valid reason to cancel.

I know that when I lost my cat after having him only 18 months, I felt as though my innards had been ripped out and then nailed to the floor while someone was tap-dancing on them in hob-nailed boots.

It hurts when you lose a pet, just as it hurts when you lose someone you love.

 

I'm not denying a pet can be liek a fmaily member to the owner. Have had pets and been attached and upset when they've died.

BUT

Aks yourself, your're driving down a narrow road, you come round a bend, your brakes fail, ahead on the left side of the road is a cat, on the right a toddler. You cant avoid both and theres no time to do anything other than go left or right.

What do you hit ?

Are you seriously telling me people would choose the toddler to save the cat ?

Placing more value on a childs life over a cat DOES NOT mean you go round gratutiously killing small mammals . It is merely a statement of where they come in the great scheme of things called life.

And people with pets (especially cats) should accept that not everyone loves their darling little cat so much they enjoy them sh*tting in their gardens and scratching cars. By all means have your pets - just dont expect your neighbours to have to willingly share the ownership experience.

By the way - Geoff_clio - You have my sympathies. I'm just sorry that what started out as a very sensitive thread (for a change) has been hijacked into yet another pointless slanging match.

Notwithstanding that they should both be under better control, I swerve to miss my dog and face the consequences of potentially hitting the toddler.

Not because I am an animal rights activist, but because my dog means more to me than someone elses kid.

I don't think anyone would seriously consider hitting a child instead of an animal if they had a choice. Some people must be pretty bored to post something so inflammatory.

It's a daft theoretical question anyway, since the fact that you have a choice implies that it would be possible to hit neither. Duh.

But if it was my pet or an anonymous child, I can't claim I'd always go for the animal....

I've never owned a cat, but my sympathies go out to Geoff since I've been through the same experience with our family dog Ben. It does get better.

Geoff, If you do get another cat (which I'm sure you will) I'd personally give it a bit of time before you do so as to get used to life without Tigger. That way the cat will be a new chapter rather than a replacement.

Ok inflammatory comments or not the scenario is a 7ft wide road between tall walls with 1 ft wide child on one side and 1 ft wide pet on the other, in a 6ft car. Its one or the other (and no, there isn't time to scrub speed off on one wall before fliiping the turbo jumper on and vaulting the situation)

I'm genuinely schocked that anyone would choose their pet over an anonymous child. (but that is my personal reaction)

but specifically it does explain the strength of some peoples feelings and in general that society's prioritys might be a little more diverse than I had ever possibly imagined.

My post was not meant to demean or inflame. It was meant to indicate how important a dog or a cat can be to some people, and how devestating it can be when one dies.

Who is anyone to criticise or ridicule that? Who is anyone to say its "just a pet"??

The answer is no one, but the person who has experienced the loss.

If people find that difficult to come to terms with then its time they woke up to the realities of (a very diverse) life. Maybe that way the world's poulation could all get on a bit better
