If it should go to court tell them you were very tired and for safety sake had a sleep and woke up after a couple of hours.
Rather sleep than cause a pile-up m'lord.

I suggest reading through this thread - don't just dismiss the threats of court...

My mum did the same thing. She was worried about the letters as she is a very law abiding person, but she was told by several sources to ignore it and they gave up. Will cost them more than its worth to chase it up

They need proof it was you driving the car, ie a photo, or video. Otherwise not worth the paper it is written on.
Roll it up and smoke it!
Damn you car park thieves

What really pi55es me off is that we were in there for over 2 hours but it was a business meeting and we were eating and drinking all that time with receipts to prove. I could understand it if I'd parked the car in the morning and fooked off all day. Andy

I escaped the council fine today. I put my car at a place where I shouldn't, and went off to the shops for a couple of hours. On my way back, I saw the council's woman in black taking pictures of cars and sticking tickets to them only about 50 yards from my car. I ran like Mo Farah to get to my car. I also saw a dad with a little kid parking on the same road illegally. I told him to do one as well, as the threat was approaching us fast. He was very thankful, and moved. That was my good deed of the day.
I'm pleased I escaped the fine. I'll try not to do it again, but the car parks get too full on the weekends, you see. Anyway, I should be more careful next time.
I still don't know what that woman was doing in Saturday FFS! She should go out shopping herself or do some fun stuff on the weekend instead of ticketing people.

As a lorry driver I pulled into Wooley Edge for a 45 minute break, I nodded off and didn't wake up when my alarm went off. I drove off after 3 hours and the fine went to my company, they paid it then took a tenner a week from my wages.

The problem with all this is that where this was all clear cut up until October last year the lovely governmnet some of you voted in changed the law so that if the car park owners become part of the Britsih Parking Association and display the correct legal working at the pay and display machines you are now able to be pursued thrught the courts for the 'fine' and you will have to pay!
As far as I know although I have seen these new signs in some car parks no one has been prosecuted yet as they get enough revenue from the people who just pay up, but the time will come of course!

There is a thread on there about a guy who got clamped at Luton airport – whilst an epic read, it’s very much a case of how deep does the rabbit hole go, it’s still getting deeper.
As you mention, the parking companies have got nothing to lose now but to push a case through court, although they look to have tried and failed on an example like that above already.

Reading PepiPoo suggests it’s still in a mess to me. One of the lines of defence appears to now involve an appeal to an organisation called POPLA. The company trying to extract money from you has to pay for this and they are only allowed to claim from you a proportionate amount of money. So if you pay for £2 for a parking ticket, over stay by 15 minutes and get landed with a £90 invoice, it doesn’t look like this will fly anymore. There is also a lot of posting about land ownership, but I can’t quite get my head around that bit yet.

As a similar example I got sent a penalty charge notice for a parking ticket that was never issued (long story, but the the lying piece of **** said he put it on my car when he didn't). I appealed by letter and got my appeal rejected so took it to the parking tribunal and won my appeal easily as the council didn't have a leg to stand on... I was then told I couldn't claim compensation except under extreme circumstances.
So bizarrely I appealed the appeal verdict and went back again making my case even more strongly and once again the appeal was upheld, but I was refused compensation so I am now proceeding with legal action against council to get compensated as I lost way more then the £60 I saved appealing in time and costs making the appeal.
Most people would just have given up, but I don't see why an outfit that willingly employs and supports a lying piece of **** should get away scot free! I will not give in until all avenues have been exhausted and I have at least tied them up as much as possible wasting their time like they wasted mine!

Just when i thought it had ended, today i recieved another letter, this time from a company called Debt Recovery Plus. They are asking for £150. If not they will recommend that Parking Eye's solicitor starts court action.
The only thing is, i don't want a CCJ against my name.

I'm in exactly the same boat Paul, 4 letters with the last one offering a reduced amount of £96 down from £120 and heard nothing for 2 months now.
What really pi55es me off is that we were in there for over 2 hours but it was a business meeting and we were eating and drinking all that time with receipts to prove. I could understand it if I'd parked the car in the morning and fooked off all day. Andy

Hi Paul, still heard nothing and the general consensus is still to do nothing. There are threads on various sites out there that tell you that you tie them up in so much red tape by asking for all sorts of questions.
With the company that are writing to me, the legal people are coincidentally in the same building so that all seems a bit fishy to me.
Anyway they can bo11ocks. Hold hard dude and we,ll see them off . Andy

Ignore it, it's all part of the scam. Look on Companies House. There are 28 companies registered to their address including an accountant.

Guys i hav esome bad news for you all..
Because private companies are loosing out by people just avoiding the fine there is now a system in place where the company dont take you to court but use a bulk court system to take multipul people to court at once.
Basicly if you get a letter saying bulk court blah blah pay it!

Yes you are correct. It just makes it easier for the outfit levelling the charges, penalty, extortion... whatever you want to call it to issue a court order.... you can still appeal and defend it, but of course once the word court is involved more people will just pay up. Another little helper for the scammers put in place by the powers that be!
