I know I'm lucky mate, very glad to be alive! I keep 'touching wood' everywhere now for luck. I appreciate driving a lot more now and won't let it put me off!

My insurance more than doubled after I wrote off my classic - keep that in mind when considering if you want to claim. Also, your renewal quote will be inflated for the next 5 years or so, meaning insurance is going to cost you a hell of a lot more than you will of planned for.

28 years old and paying ~ £800 fully comp 4 years no claims with Admiral multi car. IT should be about £500 ish.

Re the golden rule of not swerving - easier said than done if something jumps out of a hedge at you, and you don't want to hit it if it's a big deer as it can come in through the windscreen if it's tall enough. I saw an estate car in wales that hit a pony and it almost took all the roof off. The driver survived by ducking at the last second but had to dig himself out of a dying pony's bits to get out....

This is what hitting a badger at 50mph did to my car so imagine what something bigger could do

looked a nice p1 as well. i have been lucky i haven't hit another bigger than a pheasant. i usually brake and hope for the best.

Glad the OP was okay. People will judge you for being a young driver in a powerful car but you had a relatively low speed accident in a safe car, ignore them.

My father hit a pheasant in his Golf GTi back in the late 80s and it obliterated the front grille. Mind you he was giving it some serious beans.

Having had all kinds of things from people to livestock run out in front of me I can sympathise massively with anyone who has instinctively swerved to avoid something that's appeared in front of them.

It is a reminder that speed limits are not always appropriate, had it been 60mph (which that car was clearly more thn capable of doing) it could have been a much more unpleasant incident.

I recently lost my rally look bug , went through some water and killed the engine !!
Fortunately being with Keith Michaels I was covered on the insurance and got a payout of £6000 !!
Advice to all, make sure all your mods are declared as anything could happen at anytime !! The very first question the insurance accessor asked when he came to inspect my car was "are these mods declared ? " with an attitude assuming they wasn't but with a big smile I replied " yes they are, do you want me to show you a list of the mods "

Still is a nice P1, but thats after nearly 3grand in bodywork later - you can't see it but the badger mullered the ally bonnet too which was quite a bit for a new one on its one.
