I'm wondering it that might have had anything to do with my Spec D going pop. I know the 2.5s are well known for HG but that thing about the intercooler not working well at speed would seem to make sense (or just be very coincidental).
It's also not helped by the fact that the 2.5 runs about 10 degrees hotter than a 2.0L, so i presume closer to over heating and det.

Also (I may be mistaken) the 2.5 is the same block as originally supplanted in the USDM 2.5 RS version. It was originally not intended to be turbocharged and this may reflect it's fallibility when subject to forced induction.

I'm convinced from reading this thread that this is the reason my 2.5 went pop. I know what people say about chocolate pistons etc but I didn't thrash my car. It was well looked after.
However I did used to do a lot of motorway miles, often late at night.
