Sort of like the idea of the inlet manifold done but there must be a lot of heat in there
I assume ? ( showing my total lack of mechanical knowledge again as I've just learned what it's called)
How would that work over a period of time ?
How many of these have you done as I've read powder coating can cause problems if not done properly

i dont know if he powder coats or not but you can paint it, mine has held up well but i do have insulating spacers and i would use insulation washers on the back of the coolant reservoir so the heat doesnt conduct from there.

from what ive seen of this guys work he knows what he`s doing so i wouldnt worry about getting it done.

Yeh they can be either painted or powder coated John.....the paints I use can take temps of 180c that's more than double wot the inlet would reach......I've actually took the different route from the powder coating on the few that am doing now....they getting chemical stripped and cleaned......then it's all high build prime and smoothed off from there with a wet paint before dipping.....sealed in again with a 2k clear coat......they should hold out really well looked after.........the powder coater I use always advises on putting the parts through a parts wash after to be on the safe side as they cannot stop the shot getting in totally....,that service he doesn't provide tho

That's sounds better then the powder coating coating process then
Chemical stripped and cleaned then smothered and painted then dipped which gives the magic finish I'm looking for then sealed

Sounds safer then the powder coated route
The inlet does look mighty impressive how you have finished it

Apple ipad /iphone products are great for zooming in for close scrutinary Says the misses

The way forward

Maybe Locky can fetch one of his magic dipping tanks to the NBO 11 to dip someone who has the loudest Dump Valve as a crime against subarus

Ok John this is to put any doubts behind you about the coating of the inlet manifold......no powder coating just carbon heaven :0)

First off stripped of any nasties or original paint I have them chemical stripped.....
[IMG][/IMG]

Then I mask the inlet up covering any threads that are still in use and all the inlet entry and exit holes and it gets a etch prime coat.......
[IMG][/IMG]

Next stage is to high build prime the inlet and once dry to rub and smooth it down....mainly the top half of the manifold where once fitted is mainly seen.....
[IMG][/IMG]

Next up is a base colour....this can all depend on wot effect and pattern the manifold is going to be finished in.....this time round it's a 2k jet black base....
[IMG][/IMG]

Once dried this base of paint is perfect to etch the carbon effect into the manifold.....after a quick dip in my carbon pool it comes out like this :0)))
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

Then as this is a base of silver and black it's pretty much perfect to give it a candy effect colour....or at the same time it could be left as it is and sealed with a 2k clear coat.....this time round a candy apple red ....
[IMG][/IMG]

So there it is John.....how to coat a inlet minus the powder enjoy

Omg
Just didn't realise how much work goes into it untill you see those photos

Looking at that it's defently candy all the way instead of this powder coating

Looks like it will be bread and water for another month again

As its going to be a very expensive month for me I feel

Wow 3 boxes of samco hoses and clips

19 hoses aux ,pas and coolant in lime green colour to gave the WOW factor with rallytechs shiney bits and Locky ' the master of design and colour ' candy green bits

Should look good when they get fitted
Next think manifold and cam belt cover removed to go to the legend known as Locky

As some of you know I'm not mechanically minded but would love to atempt to for some of the easier ones
Any tips how to do them eg drain fluids etc ?

One day it will be compete then the rest of the car has to be done

Good Lord John

Have the lower rad mount off to drain all the fluids...give it a chance to bleed through and have plenty of rags available when you undo the fittings for leakage. You will do grand

Chickened out Of trying to swap the hoses so decided the long term master plan phase one should come into action now
Decided to take the beloved Greenwagon to Stan palmers for a couple of weeks holiday
Booked her into a luxury suite and said good bye To the Greenwagon
On my way out I had a sneaky look at the engine bay

The Greenwagon was so happy and content sitting there

On my way out I passed the legend known as Rob carrying his scanners
He said he would look after the Greenwagon and make sure it was safe at nights

I then got talking too Gary the parts man who knew about my redundancy and said he could help me spend it on booze and hookers and squander what was left on any parts that the Greenwagon needed

How we laughed as I heard Rob next door huffing and puffing with his spanners

Rob shouted to come through after a few Minutes to say he wasn't happy with some of the bits under the bonnet and he had took them out

Omg what had the Subaru technician done to the Greenwagon

Half the bits were missing !!

Rob said I had better check in the boot

And this was what I found

Gets worse he said some of the bits were not allowed to go back into the Greenwagon as

.........they were the wrong colour
How could I argue with a man of such vast experience as Rob on technical matters
As I stood shaking and confused he got these bits together and said

...... Take these pieces to a man far far away who will use his magical skills to a make them nice again and when the man known as the master of Colour and Design (or Locky to his friends and many customers ) is happy that they are right then Rob will put them back onto the Greenwagon again

Omg but what about the lovely green pipes from samco supplied by Revolution ?

The lovely gold pullies from cdf ?

The nice red hella horns from the SN group buy ?

No problem they can be all fitted as well In a Couple of weeks

Then off I was despatched with a box of parts and the Misses looking grumpy as all that was left of the Greenwagon was a car in bits

After Rob told me to go far far away I had to persuade the misses that if she ever wanted to see the Greenwagon again we had to take the bits in a box ASAP

Being grumpy by now I decided to tell her we were going to look at hot tubs and jacuzzis in the north east to pacify her

When we got to the industrial estate she ran in expecting to see a showroom and saw this

Not exactly the same as the one we had in the hotel in mannilla

Then the man came running out of the office and introduced himself as

The master of colour and design. ...Locky

The misses warmed to his charms and he explained that the rubbish in a box needed to have special treatment as they are nearly 14 years old

The horny thing belongs in a tank

Locky sold her a colour scheme that would match the kitchen wallpaper

Locky explained before it could go in the magic tank it needed chemically cleaned then it would have a bath

By now the misses was getting hungry and happy to leave the man known as Locky to create a masterpiece
