That's always the gamble and exactly what you say, inspect when split. I may have no option if there's any damage etc.
One good thing is the car uses no oil which is a comfort lol.

That is a comfort! Got to look for the positive! lol
I found this vid quite interesting when I first heard the word 'ringland failure'.
Makes you see how they can chew the bore if not found in time! Maybe another positive is that you now have an excuse to see how yours are fairing.

I've left the side heater circular vents the oem silver to match the rings of the dash clocks.
App in America you can buy foils that are black to fit over the centre of the hvac air con controls, so I've emailed the seller. See if they will ship over here. That way the outer ring of the air con dials will also tie in.
More important news, the cars booked for transporter delivery over to my good pal Scott at scooby spares, firstly for a bit more investigation work, and then possible tear down, for new gaskets and head bolts etc.
While the cars there he's going to inspect the clutch, and also add me a decat centre pipe.

Aren't the USA HVAC covers in farenheit though? I'm pretty sure I've seen them used on NASIOC before and thought it was a shame they'd be no good on a UK car.
It looks well black though, the centre console.

Wow good read mate it's come such a long way since the day you brought it bad news about the engine but hey once all the work is done you know it's done and will be reliable keep up the good work
A very good read jake , you certainly put some hrs into detailing & transform
Top job
Looking back & starting afresh would pulling the engine be number 1 on the list ?
/ it's hard because we who take so much pride & passion in the 2.5 are sadly nearly always let down by it .

I always went into buying a hawk eyes open, I fully knew the risk regarding the head gasket. The pistons less so.
It was either a hawk or no more ownership.
I could of gone wrx, I suppose but the Sti was top of the list.
I wouldn't say buy one and do them, after all mines just hit 70k and the issues are just showing their head, wether the previous owner knew this and got rid I'm not sure, he only had it 6months or so.
But what used car doesn't have some issue/history
What is say is buy it with the intention of eventually doing the heads at some point,
But don't think it's just a Scoob thing, the 2.5 st focus also has engine issues, like most finely tuned thorough bred.

I know what your saying / I agree engines get worn & working moving parts fail etc etc
It was mearly from a standing point
Knowing they fail ,, best wishes & hope you get the car back soon
