Someone mentioned the denso range of alternators to me recently Jon, otherwise just some elbow grease with a wire brush to clean it up, think that's what I'm going to do.

I started by changing the bolts to some stainless ones today but one of the originals snapped as it had seized. I drilled it out, and thankfully my replacement were long enough to get a nut on the other end as there wasn't enough left to retap it to M5

There's a few on ebay and I'm wondering whether you can swap from the smart alternator to a normal 3-pin one from a late classic

On a bit of a roll, but I don't know how long for

Made myself feel a bit better by sorting out a lot of the stuff I have to do...

And then on to a simple job just to say I got something finished

The chrome handles look so much smarter than the tacky black plastic ones

And then on to the job in hand - battery relocation...

The first fitment

Then get rid of all the extra boot trim

Starting to run the cables...

Fused live...

And enough for one day

Nice work Jon, must of been a more pleasent experience doing some work in a slightly warmer climate.

I think the silver pipes, alloy rad and the chrome maf housing will all work nicely together.

Another good day weather wise and another day of mixed fortunes

I decided to get cracking with ripping out the ABS loom. Started by whipping the lights, grill, bumper, sideskirt and front wing off. All went quite well. Next to start separating the ABS wires out of the loom....

Whilst ripping the wiring out I found the socket under the dash that connected most of the wires to the main loom so was able to unplug that. The first of the three stragglers I traced to the back of the fuse box so ripped it out only to find another wire soldered on to it that ran to an in-line 15A fuse. It looked like something aftermarket but I couldn't trace it so ended up spending a while extracting the plug from the socket and soldering the spurious wire back on. Having spent a good 40 minutes putting it back it dawned on me that I'd pulled the ABS fuse a while back so this circuit hadn't been live for some time so therefore wasn't important

So next I tidied up the wiring...

And whilst I had it apart I opened up the apeture in the inner wing to make way for the new bigger K&N I have

I still have a thick black cable that ran from the ABS multi-plug and the front passenger side ABS wheel sensor to extract from the loom that runs along the front lower cross member, but that'll need the rad to come back out

Next job was to add some of the nice stainless bolts and anodised washers from Rally tech to the wings...

And the add a couple more of the red hoses I've been hoarding.

Whilst I was there I whipped of the FMIC hoses to I can get them polished/powder coated; still can't decide which way to go

Final job was to tweak the alternator bracket. I did get a non-aircon one from a classic, but it was too wide to fit the alternator due to an insert in one of the holes, so I decided to buy some new hacksaw blades (from the local pound shop as I was passing) that have done a great job, next came the ******* file and just need s little more fettling and all is done...

More great progress mate, have you thought about getting one of Frayzs wing inserts instead if having the big hole?

I did mate, but it would need modding to suit the Japspeed pipework route. I'm going to run the K&N into the wing so it won't seem so big once it's all in place

Sent the wife and kids to the O2 to watch One Direction so had another productive day. Finished off removing the ABS sensor wiring from under the bonnet which meant I had to open of the loom across the front of the car...

Couple of minor glitches again - I haven't been able to remove the aircon wiring as I recall the heater stopped working when I pulled the relay

Also, when I wrapped the wiring across the front 2 earth wires were a lot shorter than the rest of the loom so I had to lengthen them. Finally, I tried to remove the fog light wiring and found it went into the loom I did yesterday and I didn't fancy taking the wing off again

Then the relay I fitted for the supertones fell apart

But while the rad was back out I did this

Second to last job for today was to fit my new smaller (and therefore lighter) washer bottle...

Then finally, finished trimming and smoothing the alternator bracket - another one for the powder coating pile

It's Ryan's thread that's motivated me to go this little bit further, although my engine bay won't be as mint. What we do have in common is I'm always finding a little bit more to do and it's taking longer than planned

Nothing new done, but Plastidip have black back in stock so I have ordered 2.5 litres with 3 litres of thinner, I have some gloss too so that should see my splitter re-done and all of the interior finished

Got around to dropping off my box of bits to RTS for powder coating today, will hopefully get all of the bits off for plasti-dipping tomorrow ready for the BH weekend. I've got some red too so i can change all of the caps from yellow to red

like the battery tray and the tie down rods. So much tidier and effective than rods with hooks that fall off the oem tray

Well, not such a productive day, finally finished running the battery cable to the bonnet...

And that's about it - I need a spot weld drill so I can clean up the battery tray and other gash brackets around the inner wing and then I can start to make progress

After a particularly long period of nothing I go a bit of a head of steam on today; you'll have to excuse the quality of the pics as the light was fading and it's only an iPhone

To start with I've removed the battery/washer bottle tray from under the bonnet...

And thanks to Ian (The Trooper) who sent me an oil seal I've at last been able to fit my CDF oil cap

Next job was to drill and tap some holes to allow me to fit the ballasts for my HIDs which resulted in less wiring being visible under the bonnet

And finally...

I've fitted a stack of the eclipse hose kit that's been sat in the garage. It also gave me the opportunity to fit the freshly painted header tank and the Rally Tech header tank heat spacer kit

The Eclipse kit looks great and well made, but I was little disappointed with the number of hoses that needed to be modified to get a good fit, especially the hoses going to the matrix

Should get a stack of powder coated goodies tomorrow and then the plan will be to get the car up and running so I can MOT and tax it, and then change the inlet and hose, fit the spacers, pinks, TGV delete and VF34 and send it away for a remap

Quick question though, does anyone know how many clamps you need for the FMIC hoses on a Japspeed FMIC kit as I want to order some murray clamps

Some better pics of the hoses and the header tank

And a trip to the RTS Charity Car Wash saw me pick up some powder coated goodness thanks to Mr Maggy of RTS fame

Got some time off Thursday and Friday, so off to order my murray clamps and all should start getting re-assembled then - just need to decide how to tidy the inner wing and finish the battery wiring

So I've recieved my Murray clamps and powder coating and decided to have a bit of a flurry...

only down side is one of the Murray clamps decided to stretch the threaded band and wouldn't tighten up (1 of 16), but the rest went on fine. For now I've fitted a normal jubliee clip but with the v-band insert of the Murray clamp...

Catch can and induction kit next...

I've got the can and red hose, the maf housing for the maf pipe needs to be plastidipped so should get that done this week, but the induction kit is huge. Need to work out how to fit that for now as I'm not going to fit the silicon inlet until I swap the turbo - want to get the MOT done first.

Strut brace fitted too
