I cant quite put a GTR in the same category as the rest of the mentioned cars. Yes it bonkers quick and yes its fantastic value for money but it aint no real super car IMO. Its a nissan, a car that comes from the same factory as my nans daily runner. Its a car you could use everyday for the next 5 years and not have one breakdown, thats not a supercar.
You said you wanted something flash for the summer, people wouldn't even look twice at a GTR. Nobody will admit it but when you buy such things as a ferrari, lambo, mazza or porsche you not only buy it for the way it makes you feel, you also buy it for the way it makes others feel as you cruise by. We all smile when the kids point and smile when we go by in our imprezas, when you crusie by in a lambo its not only the kids pointing and wishing they were in the passenger seats, its their mums too :-)
If you've got the money Fud then buy something really special, not a bloody Nissan. Your only here once mate.
This is a bit of me...

Can you rate on a scale of 0 to 10 how important the following are?
Attention from men
Attention from women
Being invisible
Engine noise
Fuel consumption
Depreciation
Maintenance
Reliability
Gearbox
High rev screamer
High torque
Exotic looks
Practicality
Value for money
Traction
Acceleration
Handling
Safety
Personally mine are:
Attention from men 0
Attention from women 0
Being invisible 10
Engine noise 0
Fuel consumption 5
Depreciation 5
Maintenance 5
Reliability 10
Auto Gearbox 10
High rev screamer 3
High torque 10
Exotic looks 0
Practicality 5
Value for money 10
Traction 10
Acceleration 10
Handling 8
Safety 10
These explain my choice which is a GTR and it fails as a supercar because of the areas I prioritise as 0, which along with the things I rate as 10 means I don't want to buy and run a supercar. If you're heading to a GTR it is a fine choice but you'd need to change your thread title and admit that the supercar reality isn't the same as the dream and other considerations are more important. Or you can get a slower, unreliable and expensive trinket but have an amazing noise, looks and lots of attention if that makes you feel good, and for some people it does, and I'm not criticising that!
Living with one as a road car I would strongly dispute that it is a blunt instrument. As a road car it feels really sharp, the ride is firm, the mechanical noises are surprising, the way it flicks the tail due to rear torque bias and how much of a handful it is in the wet are also surprising. The controls are faithful and well weighted, I do not wish for more feedback, there is more than enough and sometimes I drive another car just to have a rest from the full HD experience of the road.

Looks like my opinion wasn't that far away after all..... white GTR is a good choice FUD.
I do agree with what people say, it is just a Nissan, and not a super car, but super cars can be so disappointing for the money you spend. Yes they sound great and handle well on the right roads, but thats not enough of a reason in my opinion to own one. I want the entire package if I spend that amount of money.
Everyone will have their own opinion, but it really boils down to do you want to sacrifice a few things to have owned a super car, or do you want to have the complete package in something that some don't call a super car..... your call buddy. I have driven both and I know where I'd be putting my money. Look forward to seeing your purchase no matter what it is......
I knew there would be a few things that would put you off the two original cars you mentioned in this thread......ha ! Honestly, if you want to experience super cars the best way is a club, and hand them back after you have finished with them !

Fair enough John. They are physics defying cars and the later the model, the more bonkers quick they are. The latest does 60 in 2.7s - so faster than almost any supercar! I just can't get excited about them yet the more expensive, slower but much more compact (I have a thing about massive cars) 911 Turbo S appeals vastly more.
Anyway, this is "out of my league" talk.
I'm off to drool over a much more lowly little BMW...

I once had this in di-cast, and always wanted to to be a production car, never to be, but for the era what an amazing looking car with statistics to match (cough allegedly):
http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive.../01-audi-avus/
The GTR is a worthy choice in my opinion, a 2nd hand one wont depreciate badly, but for you Fud it wouldnt matter if it depreciated or gained value, as you will likely trade it in after a few mionths LOL

Not everybody gives a **** about turning heads, me included! If I had the money to buy a Lamborghini or similar, you can be damn sure that it would be not be in a shouty look at me colour! The car would be for me and quite frankly I couldn't care less if anybody or nobody turned their head!
I think both John's location and Profession dictate that a £70k second hand supercar would be money poorly spent!

If I wanted to impress anyone, it would be by my care and skill giving them some comfort during difficult situations. An attempt to demonstrate status by an attention seeking supercar would only attract mild amusement from the landed gentry who are more likely to share maintenance tips on how to keep an old Legacy going into its twilight years or confuse me with their plumber. The honest working class who are into cars can identify more with a working man's car like a Nissan. I'm far more likely to offend or incite jealousy with the middle classes with a supercar than I am to impress them. Most of the middle class who don't care about cars think I'm not doing so well since I can no longer afford a BMW and think it is a 350Z, and that sits just perfectly with me.

You aint wrong rob.For 10k i can rent both cars over 5 long weekend's jun-sept.

Obviously the people dissing the GTR haven't driven one, ok to some it's not a super car, but IMO if I wanted a super car I'd want it to preform amensily, and the GTR does that quite easily and would wipe the floor with the rivals and to top it all off is a real bargain of a car/supercar.
All these other cars are more of a show off car and to tell how much money you have.

reckon that's the way to go Fud, one of my friends is thinking of trading his 355 for a Gallardo though...wants to use it more and lower running costs in one fell swoop.
Not sure how serious he is but if it happens I'll let you know what its like. I enjoy driving his 355 (despite the Challenge suspension), not that quick but a real event just walking up to the thing.

After aving had and modified supras, subarus, etc, I was ready to give up on Japanese cars and go for something easy like a R8, 430, V8 Vantage, etc. Test drove a few and then a friend suggested I take a GTR for a drive.......... it destroyed the competition! Now more than a year after buying it, I have NOT even considered selling the car. In fact I am happy with it at 610bhp, just want to do the brakes and then I might consider stage 4.5
Fud, have a look on the GTR forum, a couple of members have come from Lambos, porsches and Fezzas. Most will not go back. There is also 1 member that belongs to a super car club that has driven a lot of supercars but has now chosen to buy a GTR.
Its VERY rare for a GTR owner to move on to anything but another GTR Although a few have and they have chosen the McLaren
I actually think that the fact its made in factory is a good thing! It means things dont fall off and things dont break.
Oh yes and with the ypipe and downpipes, I love the sound of the GTR!!! Random cars driveby, then my GTR at the end:

as I know nothing about cars, for that kind of money I want a head turner.
I do love Ferraris but for me, the Lambo. If I see a Ferrari I don't really look twice, but I do for a Lambo. But that's me.
GTR as Graham Said is a nice car, but I think from what your trying to do FUD, its not I suppose in the same realm as the Child hood dreams of the Lambo or Ferrari. Don't get me wrong fantastic cars and I want 1 so much. Your choices are lets say Iconic pieces
Lambo gets my vote
I was stood in Leeds on 1 of my rare ( get ya **** out clubbing nights ) and was stood at some bar near the corn exchange, a gentlemen drove across the cobbles at 5mph in a Black Gallardo and the street halted, was surreal as to how many people just gawped at it.
I it did look chuffin amazing.

The other great thing, is that if I get bored of the power levels (and I am not bored of 610bhp yet), there is always the next step (720 then 780 then 850 then 900 and yes over 1000) is relatively easy to make, the car stays completely driveable on the road, in the wet and lastly by my missus or my mom.
I was really put off by the maintenance costs of the high end brands, especially when they arent actually that good.
If its noise and head turner you want, I would go classic, not modern supercar, they will just depreciate. I was offered a V8 Vantage S - 4 months old 100k (already lost 35K on purchase price), same car 6 months later 75k
The GTR is a fantastic car and I would NOT sell mine, but its got to fit with what you want and plan to do with it!
