Hi,
It was a software fix which I believe disables the obd port while the car is locked, I'm not 100% as they didn't go into detail only to say the theft issue reported on the media is now resolved.
Car is a 2009, the 2010 onwards x5's don't require a fix as far as I'm aware.
Mike.

BMW seem to add upgrades over many months rather than all at once, I know 10 plate cars began to have some LCI upgrades (idrive) but the rest of the LCI changes came in 2011 so I assume every car is different.
No mine is single turbo, it certainly doesn't feel slow coming from a Hawkeye Spec C

You are going to insure a car of such value anyway, a prerequisite for any motor vehicle on the highway these days, i do not see the problem, unless the cost of insurance is putting you off.
If they want your car, then they will simply load it into the back of a lorry and use a gps scrambler, it is not difficult.
I have used network/mobile/gps jammers, so powerful they stop communication on physical wires within 1000 meters.
