Blinds closed, lights off and ignore the intercom. Not that I am expecting any visitors tonight.

This is what a Halloweener (about 12) told me a couple of years ago upon me wondering why the number of Halloweener kids has declined in last few years.

Top man, Duncs. A tenner's in the post for you, my friend. I'll Paypal it to you, if you prefer.

Looks are often deceptive, anyway. It's what inside that counts.

As long as they are decent mannered and are not out to cause destruction, I treat it as just a bit of fun, even if it is an American affair after all.

We used to go out carol singing when I was a lad and people were nice enough about that and always gave us a bob or two as long as we could sing the carol in a recognisable fashion!

That's very understanding of you, Les. IMO global stance is good, unless one is a narrow literalist, and takes everything to heart.

Some of my Christian friends wouldn't let their kids out to join the Halloweeners due to their beliefs, and didn't see any fun in this silly-billy drama. After hitting certain age, their kids started to window-escape, anyway. They knew they wouldn't get caught due to the masks on their faces. We found that very funny.

thats fair enough as you earned it by singing, trick or treating is different as the trick or treaters dont earn it they knock on your door and expect loads of sweets for nothing and if they dont get it you could be the victim of an egg'in,does this mean that i can legally go round people houses expecting goodies/cash and if i dont get anything i can assault the person?

Well, I went to LIDL and spent £7 on German sweets on top of those wine gums. Some have been, but more to come yet. I can hear the commotion outside. They better keep coming. I don't want to be stuck with these minging sweets nor do I want them to go waste. That would be 7 quid down the drain.

Big bowl of sweets ready for the little horrors, not one turned up.
Weather is bad, windy, cold and wet.

Anyone want a sweet?

Yes I did say in my post that they had to be decently mannered after all. If they are just having a bit of fun for historic reasons, as though it was Guy Fawke's day and don't feel that they have a right to demand some kind of "treat" then I don't feel the need to to be unpleasant or curmudgeonly.

We certainly did our best to sing the carols well, but my singing abilities are such that I can only do it as long as there are other voices so that no one can hear me personally!
