If you want something with a strong social scene for meets its got to be a Ford, I've owned a few marques and I don't think any are a passionate as Ford owners for modifying and shows.

I got a mk6 RS2000 MK6 for sale. 2 owners, FSH and 86k miles. RSOC registered well above average condition. Slight bubble on arches. Ive ordered gen ford lwr arms, bushes, drop links, mounts, arch repair panels and all 4 cv gators. £2000 as it stands or £3k with this lot fitted and painted.
Subtle mods all reversible.

Swap cash deal for STI in simmilar condition.

BTW drives very simmilar to your Mi16. Ive owned 3 bx16vs. This pulls just like it but without the weired frenchieness

Personally I'd go Mk2 Golf GTi every time They do fetch strong money though.

The reason Vauxhall Astra GTE & GSi 16Vs are thin on the ground these days is because they were ****
They had easily easily the best engines of the time, but were both let down by shockingly bad chassis & suspension. Most people bin the cars and stick the engines in things more deserving, like Novas, Mk2 Escorts or Caterhams

Picking from the original list, I'd go 205 GTi every time. They do feel like they're going to fall apart in your hands, but they felt like that from new
As stated previously though, opening the engines isn't for the faint hearted.

PS; I know they aren't a 'hot hatch' in the true sense, but these are hatchbacks, they're still cheap, and they are very easy to work on
