Well time for an update and it's a good one

The last few months have been very busy to say the least, I became a dad to a little baby girl, fortunately my wife is very understanding and knows what the car means so I've been able to continue with it even doing a few bits whilst on paternity leave

On the car front a lot of work has gone in to clear a few little niggles, the first being the mapdccd controller was interfering with the ecu so the engine wouldnt run when it was plugged in! This turned out to be a simple fix in the end when it turned out to be the sensor ground needed to be moved to a better earthing point so all sorted, then I had to alter its mounting point as it needs to be level in the car so the on-board G sensor works properly, this looks a great gadget and I cant wait to start seeing what effect it has on the handling of the car!

We also had to relocate the 12v feed for the fuel pumps direct from the battery after they overloaded the now redundant air con relay (odd as they worked this way for 700miles!) and got to the bottom of the fuel gauge problem via replacing one of the senders in the tank.

So a phone call to Paul B and a date for mapping was set, plugs were changed to NGK racing 8's and a couple of oil changes onto fuchs titan pro r 15/50, I say a couple as we wanted to make sure that all the running in oil was thoroughly removed from the system.

So Friday (mapping day) came and started early, I woke up at 3am and that was it, I couldn't get back to sleep, I arrived at RCM at 7am , ok, it was actually 10am haha

Paul arrived and got the car onto the dyno and when we were ready started with some gentle runs to get the car settled and get some load on the motor, we quickly ran into a problem when a boost pipe split and came off the wastegate, so the car came off the dyno and onto a ramp and new boost pipes were installed along with some firesleeve to keep it all nice and protected from the heat of the engine bay.

Back onto the dyno .....

So, the final scores are ........

V-Power
601/500

20% meths
659/550

To say I'm a happy chappy with those results is an understatement, I arrived at RCM in my scoob and left with a jet fighter!! Love the sound of 2 bar boost !!

Such a great feeling to finally see it all come together and know that the work over the last few years has been worth it, sure there will be more tweaks to come but first a little shakedown at castle combe in a couple of weeks

I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone involved for all their help during the build and keeping me going when the chips got down;

Paul Finch @ Finch Motorsport
Dave Ball & Tileys Development
Mark @ Lateral Performance
Paul Blamire @ Zen Performance
Tim Hardisty @ JT Innovations

All the numerous people I have pestered with questions along the way and a big thanks to family and friends who have helped with many random road trips and generally put up with my obsession!!

Cheers
Iain

Congrats on the new baby too! Glad you got most of the car done before the arrival. Had no time to do anything at all since mine was born 15 months ago!

A really good result for all the time & effort put into the whole car, a pleasure to be part of it.
Just keep it pointing in the forward direction, & on the black stuff.

So last Monday I got to give the car a bit of a shakedown at Castle Combe, it was great to finally get out on the track again.

So got these rally tarmac tyres to burn

We all know a clean car goes faster

Overall the car went well, not ashamed to say I chose not to venture out of a low boost setting for the first outing, plus it is a while since I drove on track!

Had a good day stretching its legs, the suspension is definitely the next area that needs proper attention now so I can use the new power! I think a thicker front arb and some playing around with the ride height is the first port of call.

Got to finally have a proper play with the MAP DCCD controller and was impressed, a definite difference between the understeer and oversteer settings, and you can hear and feel the dccd working which is cool

Just spent 45 minutes reading this project whilst waiting to go offshore and all I can say is WOW! Congrats on the new arrival and the final result on the dyno. I have only owned my WRX for a month and was left questioning whether I made the right move or should have bought an STI but the past 11 pages have shown what potential a WRX has with a little patience and dedication, will keep an eye on this project for pointers in the future ;-)
