So another little update, the car is currently in bits again .. the gearbox has been dropped and refurbed by TEG Sport due to worn synchros, thanks to Aaron and the guys up there for a quick turnaround, the box is back in the car now and we found a diff seal needed replacing as well, so all been rebuilt and filled up with motul 75/140 oil ready for some 1/4 mile and track action this year

Got a few new little bits waiting to go on too,

whiteline 24mm front arb and front roll centre correction kit



Got the arb powdercoated red to avoid the inevitable surface rust that you get with whiteline bars



Will get these on along with a geo set up before the first track action for the year in April

Am also thinking serioulsy about some bucket seats, cobra suzuka are currently my favourites, hopefully get them in before April but we'll have to see how things go!

 

How does the whiteline roll center correction kit work? Is it a mod worth doing? Etc thinking for my blob as just bough a load of whiteline goodies. Cheers ryan

PRODUCT BENEFITS
KCA313 is designed to raise the front roll-centre geometry by using specially engineered ball-joints & tie rod ends while still maintaining original steering geometry. Front roll geometry actually encourages roll the lower you go. Testing proves that raising the front roll-centre resulted in a substantial increase to front roll resistance & a significant reduction in suspension compression of the outside front wheel during cornering (less roll). This improves weight distribution & maintains a better camber angle which ultimately improves front grip. The overall outcome is significantly reduced understeer through reduced front wheel compression as well as improved steering precision & vehicle stability.

As to how it performs in the real world I wont know until my next track time in April, I'll be running with a few changes including a thicker front arb, increased front castor, new ride height and geo settings as well so wont be able to comment on the effect this part has on its own, however I'm hopeful/confident the combination should make a nice improvement!

So saturday I had a go at my first ever official drag event, my local strip is on a 70 year old runway so not the best surface (excuses already lol)

I have never done it before apart form the odd launch here and there, I was a bit nervous about snapping a driveshaft or something but thought what the heck, cant build a car like this and not use it

I went out a few days earlier and tested the flat foot shifting for the first time and wow! What a buzz, love that although it does feel odd keeping your foot flat on the throttle and not 'twitching' lol.

Also I wasnt happy when I went to clean my track wheels and discorvered that 2 of my track tyres were showing canvas so I had to stick with using my hankook v12 road tyres all be it with low pressures on the day.

So I lined up against a focus rs for my first ever run, was in a low boost setting, just wanted to have a go and did a 12.4, not bad I thought.

Anyway as the day went on I got more and more confident, and did end up flat foot shifting through all the gears on full boost

Here is a little on-board clip, taken before lunch, you can here me left off the throttle for the 1st-2nd gear change and then flat shift the remainder, think this was a high 11 second run






I grew in confidence over the course of the day and as I lined up for my last run was telling myself to go for it, ***** out and not lift !!

My last run and quickest of the day was a 11.27 with a 1.8 60ft which I was very happy with, and not bad for a full fat wrx!! With decent tyres and softer rear suspension may have been knocking on the door of 10 seconds, but my car will always remain track focused.

I finished 2nd overall, only beaten by an 800+bhp GTR, even a Ferrari 458 was no match

The day was finished off by our club winning best and ultimate club stand so all in all an excellent day out and the drag cherry has been well and truly popped!

Had a really productive day on the car Saturday, finally got round to fitting the 24mm front roll bar and roll centre correction kit, when we took the standard ball joints off we found they were shot to say the least, the new ball joints supplied in the whiteline kit already feel so much tighter and the odd little knock that I had put down to just having modified suspension has gone, Also replaced a faulty oil temp sensor, oil and filter change and new PFC brake fluid all ready for some track time in a couple of weeks.

 

Decided over the winter to change the look of the car so hatched a plan. First off I wanted to increase the grip so bigger wheel/tyre combo needed, this would mean wide arches or flares and for a while I was toying with the WRC look, but decided against that amount of fibreglass on the car, so bolt on flares it was, so I went for the karlton flare style with the split rear arch on the door as you dont see many over here.

Choosing the right wheels was difficult, after trawling the internet for what seemed like an eternity I decided to go with Work Emotion Ulitmate Kiwami's in ash bronze, size is 18x9.5 et12, these are flow formed and weigh in at 10.2kgs which I thought was pretty good given their size and not that much of an increase, but also much lighter than most other wheels in this size. This also means that I needed to find a tyre that would work as an all rounder as I would no longer be carrying a second set if wheels for track days so went for nankangs ns2r in the softer compound, 265/35/18.

The chargespeed style skirts were replaced with twisty skirts, and the front of the car has been changed to more of a classic sti style, but with some subtle changes. The work was expertly carried out by Dan at South West Kustom a bodyshop local to me in North Somerset, first off I got Dan to make the fit as tight as possible around the intercooler to force as much air as possible over the intercooler, to help aid the airflow I decided to fit a square number plate on the fog cover and so we also smoothed off the existing numberplate mount to get as much air as possible in. Dan also added some custom brake ducts into the lower part of the bumper which I plan to run ducting hose from and wull rig something up to direct the air to the centre of the front discs to aid brake cooling. To finish the front off I added a carbon splitter and a pink jdm badge, never thought I'd have pink on my car!

To improve the interior, I added a pair of corbeau sprint seats, these have the red trim and also help by saving some weight over the standard lardy seats!

A big shout must go to Dan at South West Kustom for taking the time in getting a great fit with the arches, they needed a lot of fettling to get right and the fit is perfect, no gaps at all!!
