9/12 Apple Day
I would not be overly shocked if there is a true massive outcry about the adaptor not being included that Apple will have a special program for iPhone 5 owners to register and get a free one sent, a bit like the free bumper case when the antenna issue appeared.
Given the October ship date on it (seems odd to me, release an adaptor quite a while after the first device using it ships), I do suspect that Apple may be testing the water in regards to the reaction, and may have always planned a special program. If they do announce it'll ship with the iPhone 5, then it will have been a decision they had already made, as they won't just throw it in the iPhone 5 box. We know they are **** about packaging and that wouldn't sit right with them. It could be the date is there as they are keeping a large stock to be able to give one away to new iPhone owners should they feel the need to do so.

The only place I'd need an adaptor it's looking like the adaptor won't work. Bluetooth will work just fine but the iPod specific input does sound better… to me.
Oh well, will find out soon enough and a new car stereo is overdue.

I know it happens from time to time, but I would be quite miffed if I had to change my car stereo just to use the latest digital hardware with it.
It was inevitable that the old 30 pin connector was going to go at some point. And to be fair, it has lasted for 10 years. The protocol just isn;t fast enough now and fast serial connection was required that was smaller so it also allowed for the PCB real estate to be used for other functions.
The fact that Apple docks have been so ubiquitous in audio products was always going to cause a problem.
They could have softened the blow by going USB3 - At least then they could have argued you can still use a USB connection (which most products that have Apple connectivity will have).

Apple have always been ruthless in droping legacy support for out dated technology
in the IT market it was often a strength, whereas Wintel was always held back by its support for legacy crap - I am sure deep down Wintel BIOS's still support tape dives as input devices
but maybe this ethos does not sit too well in the consumer electrinics space

I haven't plugged the iPhone in for a good long while, but it was always nice to do so once in a while. Bluetooth works perfectly and is always connected anyhow for calls.
I'd say they got the timing right, they massively reduced the need to dock before changing the method of doing so. 99.9% of the time my iPhone plugs into a charger not a device. iCloud is very good.

As for the price of the phone, it's simple business, supply and demand.
Well the embargo is over and the reviews are out.
It's the best smartphone ever produced, thanks Apple.

Isn't the whole notion of a "Better iphone" a bit retarded? Do you know of any company on any planet that releases a new version of a phone model that is worse or the same as the older model they released last year?
I've got an iphone 4 and an ipad 2, in the house there are another 2 ipads and a MacBook Pro but in no way am I a fan boy for sucking up the best phone ever cr4p or having to have the latest model. Of course it's better than previous models or they wouldn't have made it
They aren't and can't claim it is the best phone on the market as that's purely subjective.Once again the new model from Apple has no interest for me at all, my 4 still does everything I need it to. The only new phone I have a remote interest in is the Note 2 when it comes out but I very much doubt even that will have anything to make me want to move from my iphone4.

Sure, I bet it is the best iPhone ever. But it is hardly going to "Almost as good as the iPhone 3" is it?
I.e. non-news
Here is what Noam Bardin had to say about it (Apple Data partner for Apple Maps)
"What is going to happen with apple maps is that you're literally not going to find things. When you do find them, they might be in the wrong place or position geographically. And if you do have it, the route to it may not be the optimal route."
Another person comments that "searching in apple maps is much worse than searching the current version of apples google based maps. The google based maps work with google search keywords, whereas apples new maps work with yelp keywords which makes searches worse.
The problem with yelp keywords is that it only recognises addresses, business names or specific yelp categories.
Apple going backwards?

I have over £1500 woth of audio gear in my car. Of which includes a headunit that supports iPod/iPhone. Ok its USB, so uses the standard Apple USB adapter lead, but will the new connection support the same remote control and comunication protocols in currently used by ipod/iPhones? There is always bluetooth, but audio quality via bluetooth royally sucks.
If Apple are so obsessed with packaging, then IMO they need to bin the earpods, they do a disservice to audio refinement and are only fit for the bin anyway. Just keep the volume/shuffle remote part and fit it with a jack plug so it can be used inline with any head/earphones.
Maybe supply a lightning pin adapter in place of the earpods, although the illustrated one looks huge, I can see that being a bit wobbly on many aftermarket iphone docks
Oh anyhoo, iPhone 5 is too big. Actually most smartphones are too big now. If market research shows that people want screens bigger, then they're surveying idiots who should be buying a small tablet instead.

Navigation on the way to the Apple store was perfect today. Siri both ways. I'll take that over a picture of my house any day. 3D Maps have never been seen on a phone before, hardly backwards.
Oh and Google addicts, Google Earth works really well, and the web app and I would think an app will be out soon as Google pull their finger out.
