I think I see what's happening here .... the Impreza Turbo was an icon, what, about 15 years ago now?
Those 5 year olds who grew up with a Playstation Controller in their hands are now 20 and have bought a real version of their Grand Turismo garage car ..... the Impreza.
Those of us who were old 15 years ago have moved on - we have done it, got the T Shirt and slipped over to the new Kings of the Road ..... performance diesels.
I do feel sorry for those who have come late to the party - not their fault, they were simply born too late.

Still no snapped neck Lewis? I'd take that car back to Honda and ask them why the neck snapping torque hasn't snapped your neck. And while your at it you could ask them to boost the power and torque of your obsolete engine up to the level of the smaller displacement Subaru diesel.

I have a BMW 330d manual (stock), and it's brilliant, but it's not really a driver's car. The power is awesome, and in the dry, it's faster than a stock STI.
BUT : it has no LSDs and the steering isn't as sharp, etc.... It's a luxury car that has power. It's not a sports car, like the STI is. And it certainly has a much different character to it. A Honda Civic diesel is not a performance diesel, as Tommy said.
I've driven that Honda, it has more torque than the petrol one, but it certainly didn't snap my neck. Maaaaayyybe it will wil snap your neck if you're a 117 year old osteoporosis ridden woman.
My friends with their tuned Leon Cupras strap me rather well in the STI, but the Cupra weighs nothing and its two wheel drive. So my advantage will lie in the wet twisties.
Every car has it's strangths and weaknesses, but beyond this, a Civic diesel really isn't the kind of car that an STI is.
To me the STI is an envloving, exciting car. A Civic diesel is for a family man/woman that likes the extra torque and good consumption.

The point of this thread was to highlight ....... and nobody has argued with the point ...... the current WRX is not worth buying at £6,000 OFF.
All Subaru are doing is knocking the VAT Off ... as quite a lot of manufacturers are at the moment, look at Mazda and Skoda.
Analogy for you ...... Sony made the BETA Video Player, it was recognised as the best but was eventually beaten by the weight of numbers of the VHS Format.
Just as the Subaru Impreza Turbo was easily the best buy in town - 15 years ago ... the weight of numbers of the performance diesels has been overwhelming, the Impreza was sunk.
The difference is, of course, that SONY did not bring out yet another version of the BETA format in a new machine ................ no, they STOPPED making something no-one wanted!!
Sadly, and it is sad, Subaru still think that there is a demand for an Impreza ..... there isn't!
In fact, they still pedal the same item - but now cut the price of unwanted goods in a desperate attempt to offload them ...... like a barrow boy with a stock of topless Kate Middleton dolls he cannot sell.
And to those who say that the Honda diesel is not a performance diesel need to speak to the Impreza owners who are overtaken daily by such vehicles.

its not a performance diesel its a 138 bhp front wheel drive civic, a 335d is a performance diesel.
i agree the impreza isnt the performance icon it once was thats why most of us have moved on to other cars myself included but i still keep my impreza for a bit of fun.
i wouldnt pay the asking price for a new impreza either though, not because its too expensive, its because i just dont like the new imprezas.
your overtaking impreza's is trolling gold though even the slowest impreza is a good 3 seconds faster to 60
also you will find the new car isnt called an impreza anyway its the wrx sti.

Again, you miss the point (and it's 2 seconds) ...... it is NOT about the 0-60 time at all ... but real world mid-range, mid-speed, powerful overtaking prowess.
Whilst moving, the Honda Civic Diesel with its 350Nm's, can embarrass most cars .... scooby's included.
0-60 times are for kiddies ....... torque is for the men.

diesels are for girls
and when you get to a corner your car is very nose heavy and has teeny tiny brakes fitted too and the rear suspension isnt even independant anymore to save money....
so whats your power to weight ratio then given your car isnt even 140 bhp??
is torsion beam rear axle a new performance car must have then??? im pretty sure double wishbone is a far better set up as fitted to performance cars.

It had 215hp as standard, but most examples have been modded one way or another. As it is quite a light car it is pretty good fun.
My imaginary V8 is better though.

he obviously couldnt afford a real performance diesel as if he could he would have realised a bmw 335d is a proper performance diesel and it drives the correct set of wheels and has no 1920 torsion beam suspension either, also it has the brakes capable of stopping the oil burner too.
