Almost all the reviews are very complimentary ..... you have picked the Which? review - I prefer reading the reviews from people who know what they are talking about.

When you get to my age you will realise how right I was ..... I'm always on the leading edge, the Scooby is on the trailing edge, for those arriving rather late to the party!!

I paid £17,600 for my Honda Civic Type S GT 2.2 Diesel with neck snapping torque of 350Nm's.
55mpg is a nice touch too ... as is the £110 a year road tax ...
Also loses value at half the rate of an unwanted and unloved new Impreza .... scoobies were the class leader back in the day, the reality is that the Scooby is no longer the must-have performance car, sadly

You may wish to do some research .......
In that search you will find most standard Imprezas in the UK would struggle to top 350Nm's ...... and any that do have to face the loses of pushing it through 4 wheels.
It's these huge losses in the powertrain which enables the Honda Civic to overtake Impreza's with consumate ease.
It's just how it is I'm afraid.

My STi running on 95 RON, yes catpis petrol, put 408nm on the wheels. This was with a remap, and a so-called sport exhaust. The cat in the downpipe was blocked as well.
So all in all it basically had a remap, which was implemented to fight the detonation. A sports exhaust. And a blocked cat.
I don't wanna argue with you, but 262nm sounds low man.

OK, the hard facts .......
Subaru Impreza Saloon 2.0 WRX STi 4d (03)
343 Nm 253 lb-ft
Not very impressive, seeing as my Diesel Honda Civic delivers 350Nm through just 2 wheels - with much less loss than the Scooby above.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Subaru Impreza Saloon 2.0 WRX UK300 4WD 4d
292 Nm 215 lb-ft
OH, dear ... oh, dear ... is that all?
-------------------------------------------------------------
Subaru Impreza Saloon 2.0 WRX AWD Turbo 4d
300 Nm 221 lb-ft
It's no good ..... these Scoobys, standard Scoobys, are highway fodder for my Honda.
The figures don't lie ... I could well 'chip' this 2.2 Diesel and raise the standard neck snapping 340Nm's to something which would re-arrange your internal organs - whilst overtaking most modified Scoobies .....

Still no life I see Lewis. Still trying to convince yourself you were right to buy your out of date Civic (you know the one with the engine so far past its sell buy date they couldn't make it meet emission regulations). Must admit I'd be pretty pi55ed off too if I'd bought a car that a few days later wouldn't have been fit for sale. My neighbour bought a pre-reg CRV with the same engine. Salesman told him they had to register loads of cars or they'd have been left with defunct stock.
You've also not explained how this neck snapping torque hasn't actually snapped you neck? In any case the Honda's torque figure isn't great. Subaru's diesel has more, as does BMW's 2.0d. Both are infinately better engines, oh, and they're fit for sale in the UK.
You also said about a year ago that Subaru woud be out of the UK within 18 months I think it was. Not long now then eh?. Strange then that there is a long waiting list for the BRZ.

Don't get me wrong, I don't take great pleasure in overtaking these once great cars .... it makes me cry sometimes - but, come on, they do hold me up somewhat.

What? You mean the Toyota GT86?
Great car ... but, if Subaru wish to play silly games over availability in a vain attempt to promote some desirability, then they may get their fingers burned by not actually selling enough to remain in the UK at all.

Still no snapped neck then?. I bet it really grates against you that your obsolete Honda has less 'neck snapping torque' than the much smoother and cleaner Subaru diesel?

Yes, I AM saying that they are limiting the numbers of the GT86 and BRZ ....... makes good sense, generally, as it creates a waiting list and makes it desireable.
Subaru UK, however, need all the sales they can get - so, this well known sales tactic may backfire on them ..... that's all I'm saying.
Anyway .... back to the topic in hand .... Subaru diesel or Honda diesel - where does the wise money gravitate to? The Honda ........ simples. Not that the Subaru diesel is a bad car - far from it - it's all down to desireability again ... and the Honda is more desireable.

The GT86 is built by Subaru, and given a Toyota badge on the way out of the door. So what are you saying - that Subaru are intentionally making the BRZ difficult to buy? Only you could come up with a theory like that.

Lewis, you're not just taking the ****? You're actually serious in this thread?
What's the theme of the thread then? That Subarus are too expensive for you? Or that in your mind the Honda diesel is a better car?
It seems you're trying to convince yourself that you're a happy camper, having bought the diesel Honda.
Honda builds good cars. But really the character of a diesel Honda has nothing in common with a STI. I strongly doubt it gives you the same feeling starting that diesel in the morning, that your Scooby once did man.

The theme of the thread, of course, is that the WRX STi is not going to sell by knocking a poxy £6,000 Off ..................... it's an £18,000 car.
A side issue of the theme is that there are many, many, cars which now can match/beat a WRX STi .... the Honda Civic Diesel was a case discussed - a viable option for those for whom the grey matter between their ears works properly.

You should have bought the turbo version, the normally aspirated Scoobs aren't worth having.
