Think you'll find the hatch STi is fitted with the latest piece of cutting edge equipment - a rear wiper. Does your Honda? . Still no snapped neck Lewis? Have you taken it back to the dealer yet to complain? Also, how does it feel to have bought an obsolete engine - you know, the one that they had to flog off cheap as it was so dirty it wasn't fit for sale? Not only that, but an engine that despite being of a bigger displacement manages to be less powerful and have less neck snapping torque than the much smoother, cleaner, oh and fit for sale Subaru boxer diesel. That must really grate against you, doesn't it lewis?. It must really annoy you that your precious Honda engine can't match the Subaru diesel, doesn't it lewis? Doesn't it?

OMG ... the poor soul .......
Subaru rang me and offered me one - I thought it would be an unwise investment ... I was right - **** loads of money lost there
Nice car ....... but starship depreciation.
I hope it's on lease?

I've just watched an interesting video where the Cosworth took on the old MK1's such as the RB5, P1 and 22B.
The Cosworth was in third place until the speed hit 120 MPH .... only the RB5 was slower
Maybe raw power isn't what it's all about after all?

Pete, why don't you shuffle off to a Civic forum - oh no you can't because you were banned.
Quite frankly a lot of people are sick to the back teeth of your trolling, the same old rubbish rehashed so you can attempt to mock those with more taste and disposable income than you.
We get that you don't want an Impreza as you won't pay the premium for a performance car instead you attempt to compare a mid range (at best) soot chucker, that even the manufacturer has discontinued as the engine can't meet the latest emission standards.

Maybe, rather than coming on a thread to slag me off, YOU could start a thread with as much appeal for the masses?? If you can't then I suggest you go look elsewhere for your kicks?

It's a friendly discussion, with a fair bit of banter thrown in ....... it has run to 10 pages and over 4,000 views.

You really need to get some new material rather than being a one trick pony...

Pete, why do you mention a Subaru has only 262nm on the wheels, when you seem to quote your car's flywheel figure. That's not fair.
As well as moaning about the price of a STI, but quoting a WRX's torque figure. Not fair once again.
As an engineer you should know that a diesel has very tall gearing to compensate for it's inability to rev. If you go and do the math you will find this tall gearing effectively brings down the torque figure that reaches the wheels, by quite a bit.
And I'm not bringing diesels down. I own one, but if you want to argue, do it fairly.
Maybe you ARE just taking the **** out of us, but then that would mean you're taking the **** out of your own red Honda?
Buster has an awesome car, at least you half conceded that.
Just argue fair man, else your reasoning counts for nothing.

Don't you think that's a bit odd? And says much more about you than me?

honeybadger .... as an engineer I also know that pushing the power through 4 wheels drains the stated power hugely.
The losses travelling the length of the car, through another Diff, out to the wheels through the CV joints ....... that drains so much power that you get grip but sacrifice speed - it's at this moment that a 2 wheel drive, massively torqued diesel comes past.

The new M135i hatchback retails at £29995
silky 3.0 6pot engine, plus turbo. 320bhp, 332lb/ft in a 1425kg chassis and claimed 35.5mpg. And option of Xdrive (AWD), (although not fully confirmed for the RHD spec).
And to top it off: Supplied as standard with styling as ugly as a typical Impreza
Sorry International Motors/Subaru...£27K for STi that depreciates faster than it acelerates. I'd rather pay the extra £3K and have something a bit more special. A Subaru should not be priced this close to the RRP of a top of the range performance BMW.
That new Hyundai Turbo 3 door thing is priced at £22.5K aim the STi at around that figure and I'd think you may shift a few.

£33,000 RRP is simply madness .... £6,000 OFF to £27,000 still isn't going to secure Icon status once more.

We get that you don't like the price of the Impreza, we have heard it so many times before I am beginning to think I am stuck in some kind of Groundhog Day type event.
As for being odd, I am not the member who rehashes the same old argument every couple of months, time has moved on and so has the Impreza.

It doesn't bother me one bit in the slightest, but you mock others for buying an Impreza saloon, whilst owning what can be best described as a mediocre car at best.

Never mind, those of us who have moved on to pastures new can look back and know we were there when the Impreza was a true icon, the 'Johnny Come Lately's on this thread are just sore they missed the boat.
Oh and Cannon ******.... as Pete says when you can generate a 10 pager come back and talk to us until then do one

The problem now as a older ex-Subaru customer, I and many others know that the UK spec STi isn't as good as the JDM one. Yet the UK one is priced higher. I mean, does it even have a twin scroll turbo? The main reason why I moved away from turbo 4pots is because I got bored of the turbo lag and poor day-to-day tractability because of the inferior sub-3000rpm performance (a 1500rpm to 7000rpm powerband is what I want).

I have quite a few threads over ten pages contribued to by enthusiasts and definitely not trollfests, if you want to search my threads but they might not be of interest to you or PSL as they are about modifications carried out to my Impreza - something that clearly you or PSL have no knowledge of.
Go back to dreaming about the days when your UK 2000 turbo was king of the road. As I have stated before times have moved on, live in yesteryear if it brings you some comfort but for the rest of us we are quite happy in the present.

It takes more than price to create an icon. Subaru had one and let it slip away in 2007 with the introduction of that wonderful performer and looker.... the hideous hatch.
Never mind, those of us who have moved on to pastures new can look back and know we were there when the Impreza was a true icon, the 'Johnny Come Lately's on this thread are just sore they missed the boat.
