Yes it's a factor to be considered, but as has been proved time and time again, it's about the sum of all parts rather than any single item. This also includes the driver and the discipline being judged.

What makes a quick car? That is what you should be comparing and since the answer to that can be many items for many reasons, what benefit does an isolated factor like bhp per ton provide?

Personally I think there is a basic lack of understanding as to what actually constitutes a quick car and how you make a car quick. Too much emphasis is put on peak bhp figures and weight reduction.

In fairness it's simple physics isn't it? As a start point by any calculation a lighter car will require less power/energy to go from point a to point b. I take your point about other factors namely suspension and tyre choice which are oft neglected whilst chasing headline power figures.
Throw in power band, gear ratio and driver reaction and I will agree with you those factors are more important than a few kilos of weight reduction.

Guys,forgive me , I was being a ****.

Should be the 1470 kg mark. Not 1270. Sorry.

So 482bhp / 1470 = 327.89 per tonne?

I completely agree with Shaun's logic here however all the thread starter is doing here, is asking people to compare. Your opinion of the relevance of bhp per ton being quicker or not is, in my opinion, irrelevant.

Like me starting a thread saying what brake set ups have people got and then being told it won't make me faster on a track if my gearbox isn't the right ratio.

If people want to talk power... which they always will.... let them.

p.s. I would also like to know the answer to Shaks weight question, I read 1240, which is slightly more than the RA because of additional features? The accuracy of that I am unsure of!
