Name and shame, SN memb's beware
Call the police and get them to contact PayPal and get his address. They can also track his post by ip trace. This is why we pay ridiculous taxes, for a service to protect good people. Call them as youve clearly been robbed. If someone broke into your house and stole your belongings, would you post about that? Or call the police straight away?

I think the above posts say it all.
Unless you have good reason NEVER EVER EVER EVER send gift PayPal amounts o more than £10-15 to people you don't know, especially if the poster has no or little feedback score.
You'll likely never see the money again. It's what, 2% to protect yourself using Paypal, or just go fetch it. For £1500 I'd have gone and collected mate have to say.
Not useful now I appreciate but sure you've learned a valuable lesson!

Police wont touch it mate, for a start its a civil matter and not criminal. And second its a gifted payment, it like if i gave my brother £20 for his birthday in a card, then had a disagreement with him and called the police saying i want it back. There are too many scammers and con artist's out there, feel sorry for you mate.

its actually the same cost as sending a gift, if your card has to be used they will charge 3.4% + 20P to send a gift,
if you send money paying for goods, linking in the notes the web page and its description then add 3.4% + 20P which is the paypal fees the seller will be charged.
what have you lost, nothing, same amount, what have you gained 100% buyer protection. this is posted on every forum ive been on.
i feel for the guy but if this is news to people, they should be cash on collection and not spending on the internet.
here endith the lesson

I think we need to give the guy a break as I am pretty sure he knows it was a stupid thing to do by now.
As for the scammer............................its easy to say "go and kick his door in" etc, etc but what happens if the guy gets to his house and finds he is faced with a gorilla type meathead and all his roider mates....................................."hi fella I uuummm I'm collecting for the Dogs Trust, would you like to donate??"
Now that would be bloody stupid!!

I appreciate all comments as when you a relatively new to things you have to put some trust in people, this linked with a bit of poor knowledge around paypal could lead to disaster. In this case £300 ish which is not the end of the world for me but could be for someone else!
Thanks evil soup.
In fairness the chap was scammed out of money end of, all of us are vunerable, some more than others. I think meeting face to face is your best option. Lot of guys loose a sense of reality on the Net, and an actuall physical meeting can kick them back in to reality. Good luck with it fella.

That is a massive amount of money I dunno how people can do that to people a visit with either a few pals or scoobnet members would be my choice before police ..
If no ones seen him before a discuise such as a currier delivering a parcel etc to identify it's him then you have your man as if no ones seen him and you turn up there's no way he's guna say it's him as hell obviously be on edge as no doubt you won't be the only one he's done it to IMHO
If you have his name and address, take the matter to the small claims court. Cost about £30 and the matter can be resolved sensibly, without putting yourself or others at risk. The threat of having to attend court and a conviction against your name is often enough to get someone to do the right thing.

Having done this myself over 12 years ago it cost more than that to issue a summons, and then on top of that you can end up facing waits of over 6-18 months going back and forth with various letters, and bailiff fees to recover any money costs even more and there's no guarantee you'll get the money back if, for example, the guy at fault goes bankrupt.
Just offering you the full picture mate. It is simple enough but takes a while.
I'm afraid you're misinformed.

If it was my £300, i'd be prepared to spend 10% of that to see if it gets the seller to accept their responsibilities. If not, then you need to make a further decision whether to pursue further. Just my HO but i reckon it would give a better chance of success than just driving to the house on the vain chance of someone being there and then potentially facing an escalating issue when they either pretend not to be the person you are looking for or they decide they are up for some trouble.

Court is a waste of time. Dont bother. No one can enforce a judges decision. Theres no prison time for small time scammers.
Have you called Paypal to explain? Actually spoke in person...?
If you have his address and details, be clever with the info you give the police and get them round....

The seller as a business and is likely to cough up. His reputation would be destroyed if you found their FB or any other social network page and linked this post to it. May be worth a try as you know the details anyway.
To the OP, come to the SWS meet next week mate and we'll buy you a carvery

I got stitched up by a landlord a long time ago who withheld a £200 deposit when I moved out of a house. It's not so much now but it was back then.
I took him to court (which costs more than £30 to issue a summons IIRC - more like double that at least when you have the fees), and spent nearly 18 months, but in the end he was forced to pay nearly £1200 in various fees, for my visits, accommodation etc as I lived nearly 200 miles away!
All depends if you have the time and inclination.
sorry but a £50 banger wins everytime duznt matter how big they are, I know wot peoples saying but £1500 i'd have a go at tyson, I'd spend the fuel money and confront him face to face wots the worsed that can happen " he tells ya to fk off " or cough up the moneys

The only issue is the imformation is not clear. I have been digging and there is either 2 SM Gas Services in Chesterfield, or said muppet is from somewhere else and pretending to SM Gas Services.
Link to the guy who responded to an email i sent to smgasservices@hotmail.co.uk saying he has no idea what I was on about. Could be true.
No response from the sm.gasservice@yahoo.com, this is defo the correct address as I have had responnses from it. The only other bit of information is the paypal account was in the name of Julie Drew, can't find any link!
