For Christ's sake, if there was loads of available parking in the street, do people honestly think I wouldn't move the van?

When I got home there were cars parked between the Rover and the little green Daewoo. Interesting point, owner of said Daewoo has a garage around the back of her house, which is across the street, yet chooses to park on the front road. Nothing anyone can do about that though is there?

Cant park between the Daewoo and the blue Corsa as there is a drive, and the garage is visible in the picture.

There isn't the space to get the van in between the Volvo and Fiesta, just up from the Fiesta, the 2 houses have driveways.

No doubt, folk will now say move the car down a bit, then move the van down a bit. Aye sure, then have the complaint that the van is blocking the gate.

Whoever said to leave the van at home. Sure I will, you pay the ever increasing fuel bill for the Impreza.

I only started this thread to try and find out at which point their lies, deliberately trying to get me in trouble at work on more than one occasion, became grounds to make a formal complaint to whoever.

However, that's been mostly ignored, and I'm the bad guy.

Fuck it, I'll go on the dole, that seems like a good life, also problem solved. The folk next door with the Rover outside, the Rover is his, he's also got some sort of moped thing. They don't work, he's got a "bad back", she can't work because she's supposedly epileptic, but, happily keeps popping kids out.

They've got 3 dogs, a massive tank full of tropical fish, and a bloody parrot. I work damned hard for my pittance, I know fine well I couldn't afford all those pets on my wages.

You don't wanna suffer being a neighbour to one, I assure you. Thankfully the owner seems to have moved out ages ago - as I haven't heard one squawk from the hedonistic little **** for years (the parrot, not its owner).


Interestingly, and on a separate note, it would seem my boss's neighbour has just purchased one. Boss is well chuffed.

Do you earn little enough to get legal aid? Have a solicitor send them a letter warning them to cease and desist in complaints or proceedings will be started against them.

don't say to much, as i recall its £500 quid a year off your tax allowance to take a van home from work ,(i may be wrong it was when i had a company van). that may be your neigbours next line of attack , a little note to hmrc . it would be mine just after expanding foaming the exaust of the van . all joking aside just remember passengers on the dole have lot's of spare time to do research and write letters of complaint , so tread carefully and make yourselves look right in the eyes of the council/plod

Genuinely not trying to be inflammatory here Micky but if you can't even afford the fuel to drive a car to and from your work, do you not think you should be swapping it for something more economical ....?

As for the whole van parking issue..

I too would be well hacked off if a neighbour parked their van in front of my house (not that they can) but I would at least have the decency to chat to them about it face to face.

Good luck getting it sorted but I can only see it going one way I'm afraid, having read the whole thread

Someone said it before; why not convert your front garden into a drive?

Parking was 'tense' outside my old house; usually it ran ok, but sometimes the selfish neighbour at the end of the terrace would dump her car poorly and refuse to move it upon request.

So we converted our front garden into a driveway - properly, drop kerb and all - and in one fell swoop increased the value of the house, increased the amount of parking space available, basically automatically reserved the space in front of the drive, removed the car from the risk of on-road damage and improved security.

I saw what you said about the house being lower than the road, but that's not really an obstacle. Our house sat a few feet lower than the pavement, but we chose a *good* firm to do the work with an explicit mention in the contract that my lowered Supra (with a low-hanging exhaust too) was to not ground at any point either onto or off the drive, and as such they 'curved' the driveway surface to accommodate this, while also making sure it was structurally sound enough to not sag and to drain properly.

Yes, it was a reasonable cost; I think it about about £2.5k all-in, but like I say, it [b]completely[/b[ removed a source of tension, was good quality workmanship (after 3 years there were NO tyre dents or marks in the surface), and we got it back when we sold the place.

In summary;

Your disabled neighbours let you know they are unhappy about your works van being parked outside their house, not once but twice. Admittedly their went about it in a very poor manner.
But rather than than just moving the van, you engage in a tit for tat dispute.
You know they are unhappy about the van, but you continue to park it out side their house.
There have been enough comments on here to saying they wouldn't like it either.
Please do the big thing, rise above their pettyness, and move the van.

As my user name suggests, I too have vans, and as such am very aware of the issues parking them can have. And have taken action to minimise the issue for my neighbours.

Si, not inflammatory at all. I can afford the fuel cost, why should I though? I can get called in to work outside of my working hours, would they(any of the neighbours) be impressed at me starting the car early on a Sunday morning, very much doubt it.

I try and minimise any use of the car, early mornings or late at night, funnily enough out of respect for our neighbours.

If chatting to them would get things anywhere, then yeah, fine. However, it's been tried and doesn't get anywhere.

In what way "tit for tat"? Just to be clear, we've never complained at anything they have done. We had to complain to the council about the state of their back garden and the stench of dog crap, only because they are/were paying the council a weekly fee to maintain the garden for them.

I don't park the van where I do, just to **** them off, most of the time it is actually the only place to park when I get home from work.

Madscoob - It is still £500 a year IIRC, but, that's only if you have personal use of the vehicle, which we don't.

At the end of the day, if that's the only place to park, then I'll park the van there. If something's already parked there, then I'll try and park elsewhere, as I always have. I don't expect to be able to park the van within a meter or so gate, or kerb...
